Have we over-rated the Beck rally?

Fox News isn't covering it live, and its website only says Thousands expected". CNN went so far as to call it the "Wingnut Superbowl". Offensive as the words are likely to be, are we perhaps getting too worked up about this?

2. Yes...I caught that "thousands expected" line from a story last night

...giving them lots of room to pad their estimates. Frankly, unless it is HUGE, I don't see why the media would be covering this at all.

After all, I remember being at the first national march on washington for LGBT rights in 1979, and that crowd estimate was 50,000. Other than NPR and a few major newspapers on the East and West coasts, there was no media coverage - and certainly none that I remember on national television.

But then, I've come to notice that if three teabaggers stand on a corner with one misspelled sign anywhere in America, the entire national press corps hangs on their every word. The rest of America doesn't exist.
