Woman flees hit-and-run in handcuffs
One of the suspects in this hit-and-run ought to be readily identifiable - she fled wearing handcuffs.
Police were told that a white van had left the scene of an accident near 70th and Pacific Streets about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday. A police officer found the van, unoccupied, turned over in the backyard of a house near 61st and Woolworth Avenues. The officer was told two people, a man and a woman, had run away.
The woman was found in the area, put in handcuffs, and placed in the back of a police cruiser.
That's when the officer saw the man trying to run away from the area. While he was trying to give other officers directions to apprehend the man, the female escaped from the cruiser, with the handcuffs still in place.
The man was eventually caught, but police are still looking for the woman.
The man, a 27-year-old Omahan, was booked on suspicion of receiving stolen property, felony flight to avoid arrest and leaving the scene of an accident. He was also booked on a previous misdemeanor warrant.
