Black Robed Vita-Meat-A Vegemin

by digby

For those of you wondering about Beck's ranting about a new "Black Robed Regiment" today, recall that our friends at the Donkey Edge attended Glenn Beck U and reported this back:

My right-wing funhouse soon turned into a house of horrors, as I was treated to an approximately 30-minute lecture (presumably the outer limits of a wing-nut’s attention span) that covered our Founding Fathers and the birth of our nation. I had clearly picked the wrong day to give up drinking.

What unfolded was a “lecture” about the so-called “Black-Robed Regiment” – apparently a band of Evangelical Christian preachers that invoked from the Bible the political and moral underpinnings upon which the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were based and that single-handedly defeated the British at the battles of Concord, Lexington, and Bunker Hill. Ever heard of the “Black-Robed Regiment”? Me neither. It sounds like an obscure 1990s Steven Seagal film.

From November 2009:

“American preachers and pastors must return to the passionate preaching of Biblical truth on liberty and freedom once again,” said Pastor Bruce DeLay. “Now is the time for another Great Awakening in America.”

The modern Black Robed Regiment is a National group formed by former Constitution Party presidential candidate, Chuck Baldwin.

On July 25, 1993, Charl van Wyk visited St. James Church in South Africa. The serenity of Sunday worship was shattered when a gang of terrorists burst into the church and started firing automatic weapons and tossing grenades.

Eleven people were murdered that day and 53 injured. Quietly seeking cover behind a pew, van Wyk fired back with a .38 caliber revolver causing the attackers to flee in disarray - with the armed pastor in pursuit.

When van Wyk first heeded the call to enter the ministry, he imagined preaching, teaching and saving souls. He never dreamed that one day he’d be called upon to save lives through a very different course of action.

Speakers are the rally will talk about what the Bible teaches about:

• The right and duty of self defense?

• Should a Christian carry a gun?

• How can Christians protect themselves?

• Should Christians arm themselves in church?

edit to add: Chuck Baldwin Live

The inspiration for this directory comes from the scores of people throughout America who have contacted me asking if I knew of "Black Regiment" pastors in their respective cities. This directory is an attempt to help the many hundreds and thousands of Christians across America who desire to fellowship and worship with a courageous pastor who knows what is going on and is not afraid to preach truth to power. Men who are not enamored with political correctness or political parties. Men who love America's Christian history and heritage. Men who support and defend the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights and Declaration of Independence. Men who preach the Bible and are not owned by committees. Men who do not grovel before the wealthy and affluent. These are the kinds of men who comprise the "Black Regiment."

Each pastor on this list has read my initial appeal and has requested to be listed in this directory. If you are a pastor who wishes to be included in this list, please contact me. Plus, if you are a Christian who desires to find a "Black Regiment" pastor in your city, please let us know the city in which you live, and we will add it to our "looking" list.

Obviously, one will find various denominations and theological positions represented in this list. I am sure that I would not agree with some of the ministers on this list regarding various doctrines and methodology. I will leave it to each Christian to discern for himself the correctness, or lack thereof, of each ministry represented on this list. However, I rejoice over the efforts of any and all Christian ministers, regardless of denomination, who will courageously preach and promote the principles of liberty and independence. For the sake of this directory, we have added all those that requested to be included. As a disclaimer, I do not personally vouch for any of the ministries listed here.

4. Chuck Baldwin doesn't like Beck or Palin - or Teabaggers either
- much...

". . . Palin’s endorsees are neocons; which leads to one of the biggest problems with any so-called conservative movement: allowing celebrity-type “conservatives” to become the de facto leaders and spokesmen for what should be a true grassroots, people-generated rebellion. Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck are the two biggest culprits in this regard.

Mark my words: Palin and Beck may see themselves as part of a conservative “movement,” but they want nothing to do with an old-fashioned, honest-to-God, Patrick Henry-style revolution. In fact, they are doing everything in their power to keep such a revolution from taking place.

This does not mean that Palin and Beck do not contribute some good things to freedom’s fight. They do. The problem is, for every good thing they contribute they counterbalance it by supporting establishment principals, . . .

. . . Fox News is not “fair and balanced.” It is as controlled and manipulated as any other media news network. The only thing it balances is the other networks’ infatuation with the Democrat Party, by promoting Republican candidates and ideas. What it does not do is educate and inform the American people with the truth as to what both major parties are doing to destroy our country. But remember, Fox News is owned by Keith Rupert Murdoch, the same man who helped finance Hillary Clinton’s campaign for the US Senate, and who is as much of a globalist as anyone in Washington, D.C., or New York City.

. . . And it is the influence of globalists and neocons upon national and international politics that the likes of Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck simply do not get–or do not want to get. And because many Tea Partiers are so enamored with these two (and allow them to do much of their thinking for them), they remain clueless as well. http://chuckbaldwinlive.com/home/?p=2172
