What Happens When A Liberal Black Man Goes To Glenn Beck's "I Have A Dream, Too" Speech?!?

Common sense would tell you a liberal black man has no business at a Glenn Beck/Sarah Palin rally. And that's exactly why I went. Here are my observations, with lots, and lots of photos.

Confrontation #2 - So, I'm waiting in one of the very long lines for the Port A Potties when this woman comes up to me and grabs my wrist. I dug up my Obama "Yes We Did!" wristband for the event, but didn't think anyone would have noticed. This lady, apparently did, and asked me (nicely), "what's this all about?". I told her "this is all about me using the bathroom." She looked flustered, then asked me "why are you here today?" I said "I'm here to take a leak." Now, I could tell she was getting agitated, and she proceeded to tell me about how Glenn Beck's event was all about redeeming Dr. King's dream, and bringing people together, and blah, blah, blah. This goes on for about a full minute, as she's apparently clueless that I'm paying her zero attention. The Port A Potty door finally opens. "I'm using the bathroom now, please don't follow me." I tell her, as I walk past. When I came out, she was gone. Weird, weird exchange.

Confrontation #3 - As I was trying to leave, a bunch of people tried to squeeze through the crowd, coming from the opposite direction. I tried slipping past, and a guy coming toward me barked "wait your turn". Momentarily stunned, I got back at him the best way I knew. As he finally squeezed by, I slipped my hand into his bag and smoothly stole his mini "Don't Tread" flag. It's sitting on my desk as I type this. See what happens when you invite black folks to your event?

Given that it'd D.C., I'm guessing a lot of folks who came came from VA and MD, and you know who a lot of folks in those areas work for: the tax-sucking vampire state.

Or state and local governments. Example:

"Ricky Thomas, 43, a SWAT team police officer from Chesapeake Beach, Md., brought his 10-year old son Chase to the Beck rally. "I wanted my son to see democracy in action," Thomas said. He said he wants government to ...stay out of people's lives. He acknowledged that he works for government, but said it's "a part of government that helps people when they are in trouble."

The SWAT guy wants government to stay out of people's lives. He has no problem with local police maintaining a paramilitary force, so long as they give him a check every month and keep the top marginal tax rate as low as possible. Of course, it's not his government job that's the problem, it's all those OTHER people who work for the government.

BTW, Chesapeake Beach has a population of 3,410. And a SWAT team. I'm sure it's paid for out of local property taxes, and that they don't get money from the state or federal government for something like that. What the hell does a town of 3,410 need a SWAT team for, anyway?

the Tea Party isn't a real organization, and doesn't have a clue how to organize. (It doesn't help that they don't have any real issues to organize around, unless you count "Obama bad" as and issue).

The Koch bros. provide the money, and the Tea Party people show up and stand and wander like a bunch of cows, no doubt waiting for someone to tell them when and how to react.

27. I'm mixed race and attended both rallys.

I couldn't get to DC in time to march with Al Sharpton so I headed over to the Washington Monument. The Sharpton march ended near there after Beck's rally ended. I got as close as the WWII memorial and didn't experience any hostility or weird looks. It's unfortunate that you stole the guy's flag. I thought the energy at both events was friendly and not confrontational at all.
