Less than a year ago (Oct 2009) 200,000 GLBT and supporters marched in Washington. It didn't even make the local news. Tonight the local news spent 10 minutes on Beck.

I've always laughed at the framing they've done of the "liberal media"
Idiocracy, here we come.

2. Oh, please. Gay parades? |
|
That is SO not a "phenomenon" like the grassroots organizing of the Tea Party. The Tea Party at least challenges the status quo. The Tea Party is made up of people who have been marginalized and disrespected and ignored. The Tea Party is literally BEGGING to get some media attention as they fight for their rights! Gays... they always have parades, so what's newsworthy about that? It's what they do. Ho hum.
:sarcasm: obviously...
P.S. Do the Koch brothers fund gay rights groups? Nope, didn't think so.

3. I suggest you email the local media and ask them to review |
|
their coverage of that last gay rights march. Since they didn't cover it, you have a perfect avenue to ask which ethical journalism standard did they follow in deciding that a religious conservative event was newsworthy, but a massive gay civil rights march wasn't? Ask them to review who made that decision last year and to please explain which news standard the station has adopted so you can make better decisions about where you get reliable information in the future.

the other day about the blackout on their activities.
It's unreal.

5. And he had a year or so to hype it on both telelvision and radio. |
|
Look back to the 30's and you'll see the same thing-- fascist rhetoric always a has free stage provided by big business. I don't think Beck is actually very political-- he's just a megalomaniac, and this schtick gets him attention. Nothing new there.

7. What do you get when 3 Tea Partiers stand together in a park holding signs? |
|
Wall to Wall media coverage.

8. Hate to be a buzz kill |
|
But look at how many threads Beck inspires on DU, a LIBERAL board. I don't remember nearly as many threads on the GLBT rally.
