Since I have my own domain name I have to take care of filtering out all of the junk email. I never completely trust my mail filters so I have the filters send the junk to a trash folder where I can scan it before deleting. Rather than being an annoyance this is really sort of interesting.

Lately I've been seeing ads selling narcotics with NO PRESCRIPTION REQUIRED. I've never, in all the many years I've used email seen anything like these advertisments. They provide you with a link to an online store where you can apparently order Percocet, Vicodin, Codeine and other controlled drugs as easily as ordering aspirin or tylenol.

So what has changed to allow this to happen? Have the drug cartels given up on traditional "mules" and dealers and are now using the internet and the postal service to ply their trade?

1. More than likely it's just a scam. They get your money and you can't really complain.

2. I've never used a spam filter. These emails are not new.

Many overseas pharmacies sell medications w/o a prescription. I haven't been to a doctor for antibiotics or for my hormone replacement treatment for 5-10 years. Also many medications for pets do not require veterinary rx in most other countries and these are even more readily available via the internet.

However the spam emails are mostly all scam emails, set up to take your $$ w/o delivering your order.

On edit: There are far less internet pharmacies offering narcotic meds and testosterone products in recent years due to DEA policing. I'm sure some still sell these 'controlled' substances, but less now than before. I suspect some of the places that claim to are set up by drug enforcement to ensnare customers, and likely a good portion of the spam emails as well.

Pharmacies can sell viagra, antibiotics, oral contraceptives, etc without much danger of DEA interference.

Orders made in Canada to charge the card, product ships in an unmarked padded envelope from India in nicely packaged professional drug blister packs.

People who have done that have gotten a number of ugly surprises, the least harmful of which is that it's just pressed and colored lactose.

11. Actually not. More common to find

viagra and similar undeclared drugs in 'male vitamin supplements.' Most companies wish to keep repeat customers, not scam them once.

Big Pharma loves to spread scare stories designed to prevent any erosion of their profit margins, whether by overseas pharmacies, compounding pharmacies, or natural remedies like glucosamine etc. But these stories are usually exaggerations at the least and often just plain lies.

Canada's rules and regs on Schedule II narcotics are nearly as strict as our own and they do NOT ship across their border. Any outfit that claims to be Canadian and will sell you narcotics, especially without a prescription, is a total scam.
