Beck's God-Fest spooks some freepers (Beck=LDS, "not Christian")

All I know is God warned me specifically through a series of pointed dreams in early 2008, that I was not to pray with Mormons as this was going to be part of a coming judgement on America by God’s hand Himself.

In one dream, I specifically said to myself... “oh, I know those dumb Mormons have only a limited view of Jesus, and since MY view is so much clearer, it won’t hurt if I pray with them because we are in an EMERGENCY.”

God specifically nailed me for this false idea that it is okay to be unequally yoked with Mormons at any time. “Emergency” situation or not. They are not Christians but under God’s curse for daring to add to His covenant and besmirching the meaning of the Cross. They are counterfeit Christians, in other words, AntiChrist.

I think it is time that every time a politician, a religious leader, or a common citizen invokes the name of god, they have to state very clearly what their god stands for so others can decide if that god is someone we want to believe in.

Interesting that Mormons are almost all Republicans (I'm sure the authoritarian/male-dominated conned-servative culture is why) but I can't see Mitt or any other Mormon ever getting elected to National office if they are considered "not Christian" (or even "Anti-Christ") by big chunks of the base!

And speaking as a Liberal Mainline Protestant, their theology does stretch the basic definitions just a tad bit... The Conservative factions just outright dismiss them as Christians. As far as the social views of the LDS church is concerned with respect to Christian behavior, I also have my doubts.

And is only used three times, twice in the plural ("antichrists"). None of those, despite what you might reasonably think from popular culture, appear in the Book of Revelation.

There's this obsession lately (like, for the past 800 years or so) with identifying a single historical figure as "The Antichrist", but there's no particular Scriptural basis for that.

13. LDS differs in many basic aspects from normal theology.

Protestant and Catholic are almost identical compared to LDS. They have very divergent views with respect to Jesus, the Trinity, and Salvation. The theology diverges from the Bible substantially due to the use of a "later text," The Book of Mormon which is not recognized by other Christian denominations. Catholic and Protestant faiths on the other hand rely on the Bible, though they may disagree on Inerrancy.

I guess the fanciful parts of the traditional bible was developed the same way, and the only difference is the multiple authors and the age of the text, so why should 2000 year old bullshit be any different then 150 year old bullshit.

At least the bible is more or less the descendant of oral traditions and common myths written down over the centuries. There's an element of truth to many of the stories, even if they're shrouded in mysticism.

Smith just made up a "history" of pre-Columbian America with no basis in reality and one that is demonstratively false based on archeology and scientific investigation.

In fact, there was a free floating tradition, featured in some popular books at the time from other authors, who told imaginative stories featuring the artifacts left behind by the Mound Builder Indians. For that reason Smith is often, with some justification, accused of plagiarizing his main points. And obviously, since great chunks of the Book of Mormon come word for word from the KJV, he didn't invent those, he just helped himself. For authenticiy, he even included the grammar errors in his perfect god-revealed book.

I really think that Beck and the leaders of his church will regret this little let's-steal-MLK stunt if it leads to a public discussion of their beliefs, which most of the mainstream Christians whose support they want would find bizarre and even offensive.

The Mormon church faced A LOT of persecution in its early days. Even besides Joseph Smith's death at the hands of a lynch mob, other 'Christians' regularly attacked the Mormons physically.

I remember when I was at Fundie camp we were told the Mormons, Seventh Day Adventists, Jehova's Witnesses and Assembly of God were all 'Cults' with a capital C.

Mormons believe that Christ was the son of God, died for humanity's sins and was resurrected - they just don't believe in the Trinity and they wrote that extra book that claims Jesus appeared in America or whatever.

I don't know. I don't understand all the separatism and hostility amongst religions. Those divisions are what drove me to agnosticism. The concept that one religion is right and all the others are wrong is (to me) the epitome of arrogance and the antithesis of spirituality.
