Seems like lots of people are using the same old avatars. Don't be restricted by a lack of image processing skills. Now, you can create a great 48x48 pixel avatar for DU from any digital image on your computer. It could be a photo you've taken, something you've downloaded from the innertubes, or...gosh...almost any image you can find.

Use their simple tools to upload the image you have, set the size to 48 pixels, as recommended by DU, then shrink the photo. If the original isn't square in shape, you'll see several cropping options. Then just click Download on the shrinking site to put it on your computer, where you can upload it to your DU profile. Or right click the one you like and choose Save As to give it whatever filename you like.

This is a great little site. I hope we'll see lots of new avatars soon, instead of the same old stuff on so many peoples' posts.

I think the images have to be in .gif or .jpg format, and there may be some size limits. It's not my site.

YAY! Mr. BB, the late and greatest, lookin' cool in his shades now will grace every bit of tripe I put up!

Yes, he was mine, or rather I should say, I had the honor and privilege of having him during his all too short of a life. I had to put him down in 2004. He was 9 years old. I miss him every day.

He was cool as hell. He rode on my Harley with me, he traveled all over the country in several of the tractor trailers I drove, he loved everybody and didn't have a mean bone in his body. He was smart and trained easily. I taught him all the regular stuf - sit stay, come, heel, etc. He would heel so well I could walk through a crowd of people with him with no leash and he would be right by my side. When I stopped he would sit. I taught him to salute! He would raise his right paw up to his eye! Shoot him with you finger and he would fall over dead. He was kind and sweet and personable and loving. It is my hope that some day I can have another dog with similar personality traits.

I didn't even know you could see the number of unrecs, and honestly now that I look, I still don't know how you can see them.

effect immediately, but if you go to a message you posted earlier, you may still see the old one. Just reload the page and your new one will appear. Others will see the new one right away on all your posts...even old posts.

You will see a place to click for that.

Click the Options icon at the top of the page. Then, click Edit Profile. Where it says Upload next to the Avatar option, click that button. Find your file with the Browse button, then make sure to click the .jpg or .gif option and click Upload. The file will be saved on DU. As I said earlier, you'll have to refresh the page where it shows the icon, but it'll appear when you do.

You may also have to refresh on the first old message you look at.

It's easy. Once you do it once, you'll always remember.

I have it correctly sized in My Pictures and tried to upload but the complication is the number and type of pic you are supposed to add. How do I add that? I tried copy and paste but got an error message.

39. You don't have to add anything.

Once you find the file on your PC and choose it, you just mark whether it's a jpg or gif file then click Upload File. DU will change its name to the filename it needs. Ignore that direction to add the filename (or number). Once the upload is done, you're done. When you return to your profile page, just click refresh and click OK if you see a box about redoing something. That's it.
