Is it me, or did Lawrence O'Donnell just act like a really big poop?
He was busy telling a young woman (sorry, I'm too angry to remember her name, but I know she represented a women's group) that there wouldn't be ANY money left for her in the Social Security treasury when she and her generation reached retirement. She was trying to make the point that we had thirty years to make changes, that there was plenty of money in S.S. now, and that all the hype about "bankruptcy" was just that, hype. He grinned and kept talking over her, I was surprised he didn't call her "Young Lady" and shake his finger at her. I want him to turn in his Democratic registration card.
He was more respectful of the young man who came on next, who was essentially making the same reasonable points as the young woman.
Sexist (!?)
Feel free to talk me down if you think I've overstated it.

4. Sadly, even Lawrence O'Donnell is a DC insider
They seem to have a collective mindset that defaulting on the bonds that represents the Social Security trust fund is a must.

I expected this from Republicans, but not from our side.

5. The young woman held up well though.
She did a good job trying to talk and make her point whenever O'Donnell kept interrupting her.

21. I agree,
I thought he asked good questions and she held up great to them. I didn't notice a difference in his talk with the guy after. Seems like he addressed good opposition questions. Not the typical pitch and catch questions KO gives people. I made for actual interesting conversation. Both guests held up well gave out good responses. Felt like good TV to me.

He Frequently acts that way. Sometimes he's great. Sometimes he's as bad or worse then the Repubs.

You never know what you're going to get.

He was an idiot during the Health Care debate too. He swore nothing would ever pass. Harry could never get 60 votes. blah, blah, blah.

To me, he comes across as a know it all because he worked as an aid in the senate some tome in the 80's.
I just don't care for his attitude on a variety of topics.

Edited on Mon Aug-30-10 07:43 PM by DirkGently
Could easily be interpreted as a sign that the deal is already made. Lawrence was throwing down with life expectancy and lightly glossing over the fact that ripping SS has nothing whatever to do with balancing the budget. He was insulting and patronizing to both Ashley Baker and Ezra Klein.

Disgusting. Why are we wasting everyone's time with this issue that has nothing to do with anything except Republicans' utter contempt for people who work for a living?

18. No. You've not the one.
Actually that woman was making some damn good (and well proven points) about SS. But Lawrence wouldn't let her (or the guy after her) voice 'em without rudely knocking them down with his own (which are discounted by many). In short Lawrence was a grade-A idiot this time. And if the dems don't listen to what either of them have to say then they will get a bad surprise in nov.

20. I turned the show off after he interviewed her
He was a first degree douchebag. I don't know WTF he was trying to prove but all he succeeded in doing was to piss off 90% of the Countdown audience.

That young woman did an excellent job of telling Mr stuffed shirt o'donnell he was wrong but he undoubtedly had already got his marching orders and he wasn't hearing any of it.

For whatever reason he's bought into SS being the primary purpose of the cat food commission and he ain't about to let anybody with a different point of view even talk.

Needless to say I think I'll take a pass on his new show and I won't be watching Countdown anymore when he is on.

Asshat.

22. I suspect....
He was trying to pull the shtick of spouting off standard BS talking points so the guest can respond. He was just doing a really REALLY crappy job of it. That's why I don't watch Ratigan much either, his delivery can be terrible.

Keith Olbermann can use this technique to spectacular effect. Not many Keiths out there though.

23. "...there wouldn't be ANY money left for her in the Social Security treasury"
He said there would be money enough to pay out only about 75% of benefits to her generation.

The good thing is that he gave her plenty of time to explain how raising the cap would solve the problem and he then agreed with her on that point.

I'd vote that Lawrence was being half-a-poop. :D

28. I'm finding that I'm just not turning the tv on in the evening anymore
and I think I sleep better for it. I come by here early in the morning to make sure I'm not missing anything really terrible and then check in a couple times during the day and then finish my day off by checking this place out once more before I go to bed. I think its called burnout. I'm just tired of worrying with the things I don't seem to be able to get a handle on and spend my time working on my projects here at home. If I get tired and sleepy I take a nape and if I get hot and sweaty I take a quick shower and jump in the pool. Seems there is always something to do while relaxing in there beings as how we have a yard full of big trees and the skimmer only catches so much. I don't know if its the break from the tv or the disconnect from the worries of the color of the skin of my President or what but my life is so much more pleasant now that I've quit watching the teevee and spending less time here worrying with what someone who may be a troll typing some bullshit that just pisses me off.
I'm happy and not worried so much so what more can I ask for.
Peace and have a great day all
I plan to try my best in doing just that.
Oh and I quit smoking that ole devil weed after 40 years and thats seemed to have helped some too.
