1. So should I take progessives at their word and assume they are stupid...
or consider them are smart and assume they are liars?

6. To be progressive they must try to change things.
Well, Obama did not change things as much as any of us wanted.
But the answer is not to go pout in a corner or punish the Democrats for not being progressive.
Anyone who sits out the election is not a progressive.

8. So being rude and insulting to one's allies depends on the hour of the day?

9. Forgive the typographical error.
I am expected to believe that some people who claim to be progressives are either stupid for sitting out or lying about it.

13. I said the act would be stupid, not the people. Yet you insist on insulting your fellow DUers.

7. It is a threat right out of blazing saddles...
Bart: Hold it! Next man makes a move, the nigger gets it!
Olson Johnson: Hold it, men. He's not bluffing.
Dr. Sam Johnson: Listen to him, men. He's just crazy enough to do it!
Bart: Drop it! Or I swear I'll blow this nigger's head all over this town!
Bart: Oh, lo'dy, lo'd, he's desp'it! Do what he sayyyy, do what he sayyyy!

Harriet Johnson: Isn't anybody going to help that poor man?
Dr. Sam Johnson: Hush, Harriet! That's a sure way to get him killed!
Bart: Oooh! He'p me, he'p me! Somebody he'p me! He'p me! He'p me! He'p me!
Bart: Shut up!

Bart: Ooh, baby, you are so talented!

Bart: And they are so *dumb*!

But most of us have seen that movie, and we dont' want our heads shot off when they carry out their treat.

I dont think anyone with half a brain is going to be staying home this November. If you cant understand how fucked we are if the repubs take power, I dont know what to tell you. Our only hope is that we put aside all the intense Obama criticism (as legitimate as it may be)for just 2 months and focus 100% on getting the vote out.

I dont mean to sound preachy, but if you are on this website and at all concerned about retaining democratic majorities you need to contact your local chapter of Organizing for America and do some canvassing and phone-banking. If all of us dont get off our ass and try to engage our local communities its already over. I assume that the people on this site actually care about this country and if that's the case, for the love of god, please take an hour or two out of your weekend to do some volunteer work.

Everyone in the net-roots needs to fully understand that if we are going to reduce the losses this November it will be because of us and our regained enthusiasm. I have so many fucking problems with Obama and the dems its not funny, but honestly I haven't even been thinking about them anymore because they are irrelevant at this point. Obama and the dems in congress aren't going to do anything to help themselves or change the media narrative. If anything positive happens in the next 2 months it will be because progressives have learned to suck it up and come out hard on the volunteering front. I personally am more enthusiastic about voting in these midterms than I was for the 08 election simply because the odds are against us in such a big way and the consequences will be unthinkable if we lose.

14. Wsy to bring them out - "Speaker of the House Boehner" - 3rd in line to the presidency
Which means that numbers two and one, VP Biden and POTUS Obama would never be able to get together ever again.
Anyone who wants to make a point, better make sure that making the point is worth the cost.

The crazies out there want an Apocalypse, or a Dominionist America. It may sound crazy and conspiratorial, but I'm watching them play out their hands now from a historical perspective. And it f'n scares me, because I don't think the President really understands the psychopathic nature of the corporate soul or inherited wealth - he's more like Wilson or Hoover than he is like Roosevelt.
To be able to handle the beast of power, money and class, you almost have to be born in it to view it cynically enough to withstand the lures.
Honestly, from what I can see, the DLC'ers are still blinded by the glitter machine of power and money and think "they earned it" rather than they were lucky enough to get where they were; they didn't grow up surrounded by a network of sycophants, useless, vapid overpriviledge, isolated children of wealth, and self-isolating "princes of industry" like Roosevelt did and live with the knowledge of what costs serving that wealth and power took on rich and poor alike.
So do we live through the suck with the best we can get until the current Reaganites die off and the religious crazies get it out of their system, or do we just let the lunatics take charge because there's no one mature enough - and electable enough - to actually lead us as a country out of this mess?
I'd love to be able to vote for a Boxer, a Kucinich or a Franken for a leader, but they aren't running against the monied interests. So my choice is going to have to be between Boehner or Pelosi.

Haele

15. ClassWarrior, I was hoping you would be able to tell me why it would
be completely stupid. I'm really having a struggle with whether I want to vote or not. I am so sick of the weak stances of the Obama administration. Many of us low-level volunteers in recent campaigns are tired and feel that all the effort we put into trying to get Democrats elected over the past 20 plus years has just been a waste of time. I wish that Obama would just do a few things that made it all seem worthwhile.

Why should I vote if my vote just means more killing, more hunger, more inequity in the economy, more injustice in our legal system. I'm just so discouraged. I was so hoping you would have a word of encouragement. You have also disappointed me.
