ending the war. For pity sake, people, get a grip. Shall we just send troops back and not work toward pulling troops out of Afghanistan too next year or shall we gnash our teeth well into the next millennia over a brief announcement speech? As much as I loathe the people and their actions that got us into Iraq, I just cannot work up the outrage over this that I see posted here today. Now, our efforts are better placed toward ending the mess in Afghanistan and rebuilding our own nation, both advanced by the President last night.

2. Semantics

The end of "combat" operations, the removal of "combat" troops; it's all semantics. It's bullshit, plain and simple. Instead of tooting USA horn about finally getting around to considering thinking about potentially starting to do the right thing and leaving that country completely, the President should have made a speech that detailed the investigations into the lies, graft, profiteering, and war crimes and the trials that will soon follow. Anything else is a bunch of hot air. I think everyone out there has the right to be outraged that the sitting President had the nerve to say one good thing about the last person who held that office...especially in the context of Iraq. That was a punch in the gut to everyone who voted for Obama and "change".

50,000 troops and over 100,000 contractors on how many military bases lets in Iraq? Doesn't sound like much of a withdrawal to me.

4. The War Continues...

There are still 50,000 American troops inside Iraq...supposedly as peacekeepers, but with their hands on the trigger. There will be more American casualties, more Iraqis caught in the crossfire...the consequences of a war of choice...a war based on profit that still is making billions for this country's merchants of death.

Sorry...I see this as a drawdown but far from an end. The situation inside Iraq remains fluid and we could soon face a rushpublican House hellbent on keeping the billions in corporate welfare flowing to their large campaign donors along with too many weak-kneed Democrats. Now this ugly war can get even uglier as the media spotlight is off and the focus moves to other geo-political games.

The question begs to be asked...if we "won" this war, what did we win? Until there are zero American troops inside Iraq and those who were responsible for this brazen act of aggression are held accountable, this ugly war is not over. Not in the least.
