Another Northrop Grumman/Ingalls Shipbuilding Dud - The USS Makin Island
unhappycamper note: Since the Pentagon has ‘requested’ that I only post one paragraph from articles on Army Times, and Airforce Times, I’ve decided to give ya’ll an unhappycamper summary of the article and a link to the OP. To keep in that same (new) tradition, I will also do the same for for articles on Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, stripes.com and military.com.

To read the article in the military's own words, you will need to click the link.

I didn't realize that the Pentagon/MIC could restrict my First Amendment rights as well as morph the Copyright Act of 1976, 17 U.S.C. § 107 with zero, zip, nada Congressional approval. (NOTE: I am going to revise the preceding sentence.) It sure is beginning to smell like fascism.[br />
unhappycamper summary of this article: The United States Navy took delivery of this POS 16 April 2009, 16 months ago. It is what it is - another expensive dud.

Amphibious assault ship Makin Island

The Navy’s "green" ship, the San Diego-based Makin Island, is having mechanical trouble even before it makes its maiden deployment, through naval officials said the glitch is not related to the ship’s first-of-its-kind “hybrid drive.”

http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local-beat/McDonnell-Seeks-Investigation-Into-DMV-Computer-Glitch-101842418.html

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell is calling for an investigation into the computer failures that have hindered the Department of Motor Vehicles and many other Virginia state agencies.

All 74 DMV offices in Virginia have been unable to process drivers’ licenses and ID cards since last week. The outage has resulted in around 5,000 residents seeing their licenses expire, News4’s Julie Carey reported.

......At least two other agencies were still experiencing problems Monday, the AP reported. McDonnell believes the review process should determine whether contractor Northrop Grumman should be held financially responsible.

The state’s centralized computers in Richmond crashed last week, affecting almost 30 state agencies and leaving the DMV without the ability to process photos.

2. WTF? I thought copyright restrictions did not apply to government produced information?
How can a U.S. government agency restrict public information?

Oops. I forgot for a second who owns the U.S. government.

3. Army Times & Air Force Times aren't govt owned.
They're owned by the Gannett Company, which also owns Navy Times & Marine Corps Times, among others.
