Y'remember, right, you'd end up with these pamplets of black inventors, politicians, athletes and such, most of whom you'd have never heard of otherwise. Which is cool, no problem. But I always got the sensation that they were somehow being "justified," as if the undercurrent of what we were being taught was that black people woyldn't be worth anything if they didn't have these people.

Same thing here. it's great and awesome that muslims have contributed much to America (I can think of a few the article missed, in fact) but really? It should be enough that they're people. There shouldn't be any need to point out "what they've done for us" because, really that just sends the notion that htey should be working for us to justify their presence or something.
