Should we (humans) colonize Antarctica?
As things warm up - the idea of setting up a permanent city is more and more possible.

The Antarctic Treaty prevents this - but if need be we could scrap that.

Your thoughts?

1. No, We should work towards reducing and controlling the
global population. That would be a huge step on the road to reducing human caused global warming too.

I see no point in building a city in one of the very few places we humans have not destroyed.

24. LOL. No I'm just a strong believer that we need a reduction of
population overall and increase the education level of the remaining population.

And I suspect it will grow and others will be created in the near future.

9. If it can be, it someday will be.
It's human nature.

If we ever figure space travel, we'll be clinging to every scrap of rock out there too.

12. why not?
If people want to live in a nasty, cold environment (which it will be even after it warms up some) then more power to them.

16. I know this isn't going to be a popular opinion, but I think- long run- Mars is a better choice.
In the equatorial regions on Mars, you get a nearly 24 hr. day, Earth-style seasons, etc. Problem w/ living at Polar latitudes is, the long days and nights really fuck with people IMHO.

And they can rule their country any way they want as long as they don't try to invade anyone.

23. Think about it, I would give them something like South Carolina but....
there are good, decent people in South Carolina who probably wouldn't want to be stucking living in the country of Jesustan. The only thing we would have to do is a giant move of all the Polar Bears and Penguins to the North Pole so they won't be slaughtered, but then again if we can establish colonies on Antartica the polar bears and penguins are probably all dead.

25. Even in the worst global warming scenarios...
...living on Antarctica would never be warmer than living at the northern tip of Greenland is today. Short, cool summers punctuating long subszero winters. Even without a permanent ice sheet, it would be a miserable place to live. And forget about growing anything.
