UPDATE II: The hostage-taker at the Discovery Channel headquarters in Silver Spring, Md., has been shot, and his three hostages are believed to be safe, MSNBC has reported.

Witnesses in the area say the sound of at least one shout could be heard. Police would not say how badly James Jay Lee -- believed to be the hostage-taker -- was injured, or whether he is alive.

UPDATE: Web site linked to gunman calls for an end to 'anchor baby filth,' births of 'parasitic human infants'

22. Sheesh. It's a shortcut for saying "I do think X is not true."
I've already read the "this guy was inspired by right-wingers" talking point a couple time, and it seems to be a stretch, though may be verified as more news comes out. Crying wolf (the right-wingers cause every hostage situation) doesn't help.

It may be true that the right-wingers will over-reach in their attempts to blame this guy as a *left*-wing violent guy, and that will backfire on them when the next (inevitable) right-wing violent guy pops up.

4. I don't think he was a leftwingnut or rightwingnut...
he was just plain nuts.

(Odd..."leftwingnut" is getting flagged as misspelled in the DU checker, but rightwingnut isn't) :D

3. I actually agree with him on putting a stop to reproduction...
either we find a way to deal with it ourselves, or Mother Nature is going to deal with it for us. It's time for people to stop having kids just because they can, and start considering what kind of a world they're going to leave for those kids. Right now, it ain't a pretty one.

Fix it first, people, then think about kids.

20. I simply forgot to add the snark mark
or the sarcasm notice.

Tis been a long day, and as always, MSM coverage was overblown, inaccurate, and missing the bigger stories.

24. complete sadness would have involved detonation
Just today, there was a breaking story of teens driving by a mosque, yelling showing the finger, and firing shotguns.

How can Sarah, Glenn, Newt and other assholes not realize what they are causing? Even worse, perhaps they do know, and do not care.

Can we stop this whirled? I want to get off.

He took people hostage while wearing explosives. I'm sure he was insane, but at the same time, his views are very warped and deranged.

15. How would that be accomplished?
forced sterilizations? forced abortions? hefty 'spawn' taxes?

The latter ends up punishing the children in the long run. The other two wouldn't get much support from the left or the right.

26. I think
if you look at the numbers the US has plateaued in birth rate, and we really have no say in what the rest of the world does no matter what people think. It would be great if the rest of the world followed but it wont happen for a long time.

18. The N.Y. Times apparently outsourced a portion of their report
on the incident to Discovery's P.R. person:

"Discovery Communications is one of the foremost providers of environmental and educational television programming. It operates the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, TLC, and a number of other cable channels.

Its headquarters building, completed in 2003, was a vital part of the redevelopment of downtown Silver Spring."

19. Some imbecile named Schnitt is blaming Gore
Edited on Wed Sep-01-10 05:21 PM by gophates
Schnitt's a hate host here in Florida (original home of BecKKK's racist political rants). As if this is the same as Rush inciting OKC or any number of whackjobs inciting Dr. Tiller's murderer. If this guy was angry, it was because of the spew that comes from the right. It was too much for him to take and he snapped.

Not excusing it, but damn, to blame Gore is just over the line.
