YES it's supported by a lot of IOU's, but they are TREASURY BONDS and like it or not, congress is going to HAVE to pay back the $$ they borrowed.

I think this one issue may be the reason Rand Paul loses in Ky. Of course one of the other candidates that wants to privatize SS along with getti rid of medicare is Angel in Nv. SHE however has so many reasons not to vote for her, SS is only one small one.
