Asked to name the current chief justice of the Supreme Court, and given four possible names, nearly one-in-ten Americans (8%) choose Thurgood Marshall, despite the fact that Justice Marshall left the Supreme Court roughly 20 years ago, and passed away in 1993. In fact, very few Americans can name the current chief justice in a Pew Research news quiz; just 28% were able to correctly identify John Roberts. Another 6% thought the recently retired Justice John Paul Stevens was chief justice, while 4% named Sen. Harry Reid. A majority (53%) admitted that they did not know the answer. Americans have not always been so unknowledgeable about the Supreme Court. In November 1986, 43% correctly identified William Rehnquist as the chief justice, though 29% chose his predecessor, Warren Burger. And, in a January 2010 Pew Research news quiz, a majority (56%) correctly answered that more than one woman sat on the Supreme Court

John Robert's name/face recognition factor will go up if he makes a couple of guest appearances on 'Dancing With The Stars' or 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians'.

8. And Fewer Can Name Their Own CongressCritter

In my years of canvassing it never ceases to amaze how little people know about those who supposedly represent them. I'll introduce myself on behalf of the candidate and then wait for the long pause as the person on the other end tries to figure out who that person is. I've seen polls showing large numbers who don't know who their national reps are (House & Senate) and it's amusing some of the responses I got from people as to whom they thought their rep was. One carried on one time how he hated Luis Guiterrez...and how he'd never ever vote for him. Problem is this dude lived 40 miles from Gutierrez's district.

No surprise that people wouldn't know who the SCOTUS judges are...maybe they should get their own reality show, then people would pay attention.
