GOP already threatening gov't shutdown unless health care reform is defunded...
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/09/un-american----what-will-happen-if-republicans-force-a-government-shutdown.php?ref=fpb

If Republicans win one or both houses of Congress and take their pledge to defund the health care law to its extreme, the logical end point of the ensuing fight with the White House will be a government shutdown. Or at least a partial one. And top conservatives are clamoring for that outcome.

"I'm almost giddy thinking about a government shutdown next year," tweeted Erick Erickson on Monday. "I cannot wait!"

"There's going to be a government shutdown, just like in '95 and '96 but we're going to win it this time and I'll be fightin' on your side," Dick Morris told attendees at the Americans for Prosperity Foundation Conference last week.

What neither man explained was how a shutdown would work, and what the consequences would be -- even if Republicans chose to target health care reform narrowly.

Wow, they're not even waiting for election day.

But I'd say we should be game for a few rounds of Budget Chicken. We won the last bout against Newt Gingrich. All we have to do is not flinch...

4. Counting chickens
This needs to be driven home in the last months of the campaign, they are planning a shutdown and blatantly flaunting it. If it didn't work for Newt, it definitely won't work for Boehner.

6. Ah, governing by blackmail.
I don't know why half the country supports this kind of behavior.

7. I'd be much less worried about this if I thought...
...that Obama and the Democrats in general wouldn't just cave on anything and everything the republicans wanted. But sadly I think most of us know that's not the case so they'll likely get everything they demand.

8. Their main goal is to deny Obama a success story.
Even though the so-called "Obamacare" is not nearly as progressive as it could have or should have been, the GOP's goal is to eliminate it before it can do anyone any good.

They do not care about Americans. They only care about "winning."

9. Operation Damn Dem is up and running
If they plant enough stories in the national media saying that the Dems have already lost, Dems will stay home, and they WILL lose...
