The author of the blistering Vanity Fair profile on Sarah Palin says he wanted to write a positive piece, but was shocked by what he learned as he researched his story.

"The worst stuff isn't even in there," Michael Joseph Gross said on "Morning Joe" Thursday. "I couldn't believe these stories either when I first heard them, and I started this story with a prejudice in her favor. I have a lot in common with this woman. I'm a small-town person, I'm a Christian, I think that a lot of her criticisms of the media actually have something to them. And I think she got a bum ride, but everybody close to her tells the same story."

In the profile, Gross paints Palin as an abusive, retaliatory figure with an extreme ability to lie.

5. Just finished reading the entire Vanity Fair article. I am prevented from "knowing" that

there is no way in hell she could be elected President by the still-fresh scars of the Bush administration.

Are we really confident that a nation which "elected" George W. Bush TWICE would not possibly buy the unmitigated mooseshit being shovelled by Sarah "Who's Margaret Thatcher?" Palin?

9. Because W was "elected" by way of electronic vote stealing, it would be just as

easy for them to "elect" Sarah Palin that way too. Our only chance of dodging the Palin bullet in the long run comes from the fact that the honchos in the Republican establishment are leery of her because they are not sure they can control her. If they were quite sure of controlling her, they would make sure she is nominated and elected in 2012. They have the means to do it.

6. He probably learned the real lowdown behind Trig's birth,

starting with whether or not he's really Sarah's kid. Remember that "invisible" pregnancy and the flight from Texas to Alaska while she was allegedly in labor? I bet someone broke down and told him the real uncensored story, but made him swear not to publish that part of it.

8. He says the members of the press give her a pass, then he says he didn't even include the

worst stuff he found out about her. Well, then no wonder she keeps getting away with it! He gave her a pass, too!
