Oregon GOP candidate sells racist book
Mike Malloy mentioned an Alternet article about a Republican candidate in Oregon who sells a book that compares the intelligence of African adults to that of an average 10 year old child. I hope that the voters in Peter DiFazio's district hear this about the Republican challenger.

Here are some details:

Running against Democrat Peter DeFazio for a congressional seat in Oregon’s 4th District, Art Robinson is one of the most influential leading Global Warming denialists in America and has proposed dumping radioactive waste and crude oil waste at sea.

But wait! There’s more.

For a the better part of a decade at least Robinson has been reprinting, marketing, and selling a virulently racist 19th Century English boys’ adventure novel that suggests Africans are like retarded children.

“By Sheer Pluck”, by George Alfred Henty, is set in Africa and features a sympathetic character patronizing Africans as “just like children” and declaring, “the intelligence of an average negro is about equal to that of a European child of ten years old… Left alone to their own devices they retrograde into a state little above their native savagery.”

The rest of the article goes on to show more of Robinson's extremism. He seems like the sort of fellow who probably thinks that the Handmaiden's Tale is a plan for political action.

2. Good old Art Robinson.
I first came across Art when his name appeared in an article about how mean DeFazio was being, publishing some old material that Art Robinson had once written.

It was only about the public school system should be destroyed. And how nuclear accidents are not a big deal, and besides a little radiation is probably good for people, what with the homeopathic principle and all.

But it was all a misunderstanding.

3. He's running in my district
He's a nutball.. with a very good "godfearing family man success story" and a bunch of right wing money behind him.

In a district that is pissed off because of logging and DeFazio is fueling their anger instead of redirecting it. Well, he's redirecting it, at Obama and the lack of a logging plan. Because none of us wanted WOPR, including DeFazio, but he just skips that little ditty when he's talking to logging folks.

I suppose local lefties should let Robinson win to teach DeFazio a lesson.
