Sharron Angle Claims Unemployment Insurance 'Really Doesn't Benefit Anyone'

First Posted: 09- 3-10 09:59 AM | Updated: 09- 3-10 09:59 AM

In an interview this Wednesday, Nevada Republican Senate candidate Sharron Angle heightened her criticisms of unemployment insurance, insisting that the benefits program to help the jobless ended up benefiting nobody.

Sitting down with conservative radio talk show host Heidi Harris, Angle once again addressed a topic that brought her a bit of political heat -- including a hard-hitting ad from her opponent Harry Reid-- not too long ago.

"People don't want to be unemployed," she explained. "They want to have real, full-time, permanent jobs with a future. That's what they want, and we need to create that climate in Washington, D.C. that encourages businesses to create those full-time, permanent jobs with a future, and all Shelley Berkeley and Harry Reid want to do is put a band-aid on this by extending unemployment, which really doesn't benefit anyone. What happens is of course that your skills stagnate. You become demoralized yourself, you know, feeling that I can't ever get a job, and these are not the solutions to the problem. We have real solutions, but they won't look at the real solutions."

This is a fresh twist in Angle's relatively robust campaign against unemployment insurance. Prior to her appearance with Harris, the Tea Party favorite had argued that such benefits made the jobless "spoiled" in their dependency on the government. On other occasions she's stressed that unemployment insurance should be cut so as to compel people to go look for work.

Until this week, it doesn't appear that she's ever argued that UI doesn't "benefit anyone." -- a rather bold proclamation that even the most doctrinaire of Republicans probably wouldn't make. It's pretty easy, after all, to find people who benefit from unemployment insurance. They're called the unemployed.

2. It's the having no job and no money coming in that's the demoralizing part.
Not that she gives a shit, of course.

20. She already has a job.
It's to keep the unwashed masses distracted. Her political run is just ancillary to her real career of satan's secretary.

then we can ask her if she feels demoralized.

7. For starters, it's insurance
to use when needed. To add, there's no "f" in unemployment. Why do Sharron Angle and her ilk think that being unemployed is fun? Not to mention having a job usually pays better than not having a job, thus, WANTING to be unemployed just to be able to collect unemployment insurance makes, as we said in school years ago, no walking-around sense.

To borrow a phrase, public office is the last refuge of the incompetent.

9. No, dipshit, what is "demoralizing" is not being
able to find a job despite long and diligent searching and no matter what you do. And to top off the insult to injury, the longer you're unable to find work (because, and listen closely clueless heartless dipshit, there ARE NO FUCKING JOBS), the harder it is to actually find a job because of employers bullshit thinking that there must be something "wrong" with you if you can't immediately find something, never mind the sucky job market.

17. This is a big repub talking point this year.
It's not just Angle. All the talking heads are holding up those on unemployment as the new "welfare queens". They're turning the public against those collecting unemployment just like they've demonized gays, hispanics, union workers, democrats, etc. They're equal opportunity haters. The only people they really like are rich, white guys.

19. I have heard of programs that train people working with the
homeless, that drop them in a strange city without money, credit cards or id to let them experience what it's like. I'd like to see a similar program for politicians who want to mess with welfare, unemployment, food stamps, social security etc. Let them live on it for a month before the speak about it. Now that I think about it, it would be good to send them to the frontlines for the first month of a war, if they voted for it and to jail for a month if they run as "law and order" candidates. Then they would have "standing" to speak.

21. yeah, well our right wing rag
who loves printing the most illogical, hate filled editorials, from the likes of Coulter and Malkin--in a poll recently had Reid 45% and Angle 44%. Had one letter to the editor today from someone putting down Reid's ads on TV--how he should be stating what he's done than put down the poor unknown opposition. I thought, "wow, you are really clueless." He's done ads showing what he's accomplished, as well as, done ads attacking Angle's positions, with her own words. Yet, Angle's ads are all about attacking Reid--not what she's going to do (oh, accept put a lock box on SS). And, believe me, there are way more Angle ads-I have to mute the ad--it's getting quite irritating. I didn't know she had so much money.

We'll see, how damn ignorant the majority of Nevadans can be come election--I mean the base elected her over Lowden. She defeats herself with her own woo woo perceptions. And, she insults many in this state who are truly hurting.
