Is there anyone here who knows powerpoint and can help with a project to help the homeless?
A very dedicated DUer Bobbolink who is working on a project to educate people about poverty and homelessness but she needs help with powerpoint.

I wish I could do it but I have no idea..at..all...

but someone here has already done it and it would probably be so easy for them.

So many people want to help but don't know what to do?

Here is your chance. Please post here or contact bobbolink.

Also, Bobbolink needs an artist and a songwriter. Please lend a hand. Thanks.

We have one million homeless school children- we all need to stand up together and say this is unacceptable!

If not us, then who?

at Open Office as a alternative to Office/Powerpoint.

However, her dog died yesterday, and she just isn't up to it. :(

Here is what comes up for "powerpoint tutorial":

Although I suppose the version really doesn't matter much.

If help is still needed, add me to the list. Can also do graphic art.

So, if you can describe what you need done, I'll tell you whether it sounds like it's within my capability.

23. That's great! I need different things, from replicas of different signs....
Edited on Fri Sep-03-10 10:04 PM by bobbolink
such as this:

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FqFDV-L66EI/SZ8pNCOlfvI/AAAAAAAATcQ/sYRFzahW_uo/s400/%E2%80%9CNo+Dogs+or+Indians+Allowed%E2%80%9D.jpg
(IT's too hard to get permission to use, and making other signs will work)

To illustrative designs like a large version of the man by the ATM in my sig, for use with the costs of homelessness section.

Photos are too exploitive, and there just isn't that much art work available anyway. It will be very good to have some original pieces.

Let me know what kind you would be interested in, as I have a lot of empty holes to fill!

Thanks so much! :yourock:

I'm going to try a few here... these are ideas, and you can branch off from here:

The idea is to illustrate prejudice from the past, and link it with current prejudice of homeless people, using this sign from San Diego:

Your thoughts?

those shouldn't be too hard to do. What kind of direction do you want to go with these? Close to the original? More creative and colorful? Just head me in a general direction. Oh, and what general size do they need to be?

29. Clearly depict prejudice. Close enough that they are believable that they could have been used
Edited on Fri Sep-03-10 10:49 PM by bobbolink
during that time, but not a direct copy so we're not liable for a lawsuit. Is that close enough to a description? ^_^

Size.... that I am really unsure.... I know that for a powerpoint they have to be large enough to not get pixilated when they are projected. I really don't know.

Would you be willing to ask one of the people who does powerpoints? Like nuclear uniorn below, who does it for a living. I'm flying by the seat of my pants here! ^_^

Also.. need a sign about no sleeping... something like that. A lot of cites are arresting people for falling asleep in public!

If you want to check for permission, that it fine, too.

I have spent a lot of time to get permission for things that are really important to this project.

I am only one person, I have been doing this alone, and it is important to get this project on its way, rather than to spend so much time on the little things.

I don't have a lawyer on retainer, and I can't risk lawsuits.

30. If you google for other examples of ideas of that era, that is OK, too.
I got what I could, but can't spend too much time on any one thing. It is mainly to illustrate prejudice, and how that prejudice from the past looks so wrong now. Yet, the very same thing is being done to homeless people today. :(

36. That's fine if you would be willing to check on itl
As I said before, I am doing this on my own, I have limited time and energy, and it is important to get this off now.... I may not have time to finish it all.

There are a lot of sources to hunt down, and one person can only do so much. If you can find other things that are important to include, that would be great.

As a matter of fact, I have written to a very good source like that a number of times to get permission to use some of their material, and never receive a reply. That is time wasted.

Seriously, I am a very responsible person, and it does trip my guilt triggers that somebody is doing something for free that is their skill.

However, this isn't for me personally,.... this is on behalf of homeless people, so I am trying to put my guilt to rest.

I await your PM!

34. Details of the project would help get the project and contributors organized, I think.
How far along is it, is it still in an embryonic brainstorming stage?
What will it be used for?
How will it be delivered and/or distributed?

I PMd with bobbolink on the 3rd offering my help, and thought I'd join this thread out in the open. ;)

37. I will send that as it becomes necessary, to understand the scope.
I didn't know this was going to be posted on DU, it has caught me by surprise, and I'm dancing as fast as I can. Sadly, I don't have a secretary to handle all of this.

Your idea of a video is a GREAT one, is something I definitely want to do, but had thought of it further down the road. I now have 5 projects going at once, and limited time and energy, so I will send you my thoughts on the video aspect as soon as I can. A video now would be GREAT, and I want to follow up on that!

This is very exciting to suddenly get so many replies. I am trying to switch gears as fast as I can, and will get you what you have asked for.

Thanks for the interest, and the help!
