Oh, wonderful. Even World Nut Daily is promoting Obama's opposition to marriage equality
via Americablog: Today, WND prints an "Open letter to Conservatives who support same-sex marriage" from David Kupelian. Here's how it starts -- with one of the favorite talking points from marriage opponents:

"I do not support gay marriage. Marriage has religious and social connotations, and I consider marriage to be between a man and a woman." – Barack Obama

"Marriage has got historic, religious and moral content that goes back to the beginning of time, and I think a marriage is as a marriage always has been, between a man and a woman." – Hillary Clinton

To my conservative friends and colleagues,

Just two years ago, supporting homosexual marriage was such an extreme, politically radioactive position that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton – both Alinskyite progressives and long-time gay-rights supporters – saw fit to publicly and repeatedly declare their opposition to same-sex marriage.

Today, as the homosexual newspaper the Washington Blade puts it, "conservatives have taken the leadership role in achieving marriage equality."

Yes, they have. Now, even WND is using Obama to challenge the conservatives who are more progressive on marriage than the Prsident.

4. Tearing down the Democratic President is not likely to achieve
marriage equality. Getting more Democrats elected to Congress will.

5. telling the truth isn't tearing down
No part of what is in Bluebear's OP isn't true. No part of it calls Obama a name that we would actually consider an insult. His position is what it is. It is being used, as it is being used. Those facts are his fault, not ours, and pointing it out isn't tearing him down.

8. I don't understand why you refuse to hold Obama responsible for his words...
It is Obama's words that are causing this particular contretemps, if he would just change his mind that would completely defuse this particular right wing talking point.

Do you think Obama is incapable of changing his mind?

and that's easily remedied. He could have helped everyone, him and us with a congratulatory message when we had the latest Prop8 victory, instead he had to have and advisor reiterate his disagreement with equal marriage (slinking away mumbling).

17. Don't fucking tell our community what to do. Everything we've ever earned we've earned
through our own sweat, our own organizing, our own money, our own ideas. 20 years with Democrats supporting us about on par with Republicans and not an inch more.

Getting anti-gay Democrats elected won't do shit for us. Pressuring them to take a stand is far more effective. Shaming them by pointing out the fact that even conservative lawyers have been more helpful than they have isn't a bad pressure point either.

Obama's marriage equality position is disgusting and disgraceful. And anyone who apologizes for him on this issue is equally disgraceful.

9. I gave this OP a rec that you will likely never see.
President Obama's opposition to marriage equality is an inconvenient truth that many progressives would rather not be mentioned at all.

But when his words are being used in a way that attacks our families, as is the case with WND above, then our President needs to be held publicly accountable for his words and for providing these right-wing nutjobs with such ammunition to harm us.

He could easily neutralize all of this by doing the right thing, but unfortunately it does not appear politically expedient to do so. Therefore, he won't.

How do you like THAT fierce advocacy?
