Hi, this is the P***** ******* Police Department. We have several reports of an armed male, black, 165 lbs, black hair brown eyes, 5'8" within a three block area of your residence. Please stay indoors. If you should see this male, do not approach him, but call the following number (the local PD number) at once. He is reportedly armed.
So, of course, honey and I went to walk the dogs, as we always do. Two. count them, two. TWO choppers flying around, both obviously police helicopters, one with a spot light, one circling even higher and further away.
OK, I admit I live in the "red" corner of Cook County, Illinois. My town has no budget problems (surprising in this day and age), but with only 20,000 or so people, we do NOT have our own chopper, much less two. To say that this part of the county is pale, is like saying Illinois is flat.
The walk lasted 45 minutes, as usual, and I saw only one cop car drive by. One chopper left, only to return 15 minutes later. I suspect fuel was an issue.
Now, an hour later, the two choppers are still up there, but they have expanded their search radius.
It is exceedingly rare for my police to leave a robocall. The last time involved a rape of a 17 yr old who was closing a gyro's sandwich shop alone. And, that turned out to be a fraud. She actually went to have sex with her boyfriend, and was afraid that mums and daddy would find out and get upset. Rapes are actually unknown in this town. There was a domestic murder suicide, but that was a decade ago. Crime here consists of drunk drivers stopping at a red light and passing out, or being caught driving from one side of the road to the other.
Obviously there is more to this story. I haven't heard anything else, and now, night has fallen. But still, the choppers are circling.
