So the American voter is mad at the Democrats
They are going to throw them out, the dirty rotten bums.

Throw out the party that may be responsible for saving this country from a depression. Throw the Democrats out in favor of the part that put this country in this mess in the first place.

They are going to throw them out with the false belief that the cons are their savior, they believe that jobs will suddenly return once the GOP are controlling the country.

They are going to throw out the Democrats not believing they will ensure the final destruction of the country.

Think unemployment is high now? Watch what another round of republican deregulation can provide.

3. I am afraid that more than Congress will be losing their jobs
9.7% will be nothing compared to what will come.

Yes, we can and should be doing some fear mongering too. Only ours is based on a real threat, one that has been proven time and time again.

2. Sorry
If you think that we're "saved" from a depression, you're not paying attention. We're already in a Depression (big enough to capitalize it) whether TPTB admit it or not - who in their right mind would trust the folks who told you with steel-eyed confidence that "subprime is contained"?

When we get out of this Depression it will be because we reined in the banking system, scaled back our military commitments greatly, put a stop to rampant corruption in government, and reversed trade/tax policies that encourage the gutting of the US economy.

The reason the people are pissed off is because the current government knows no solution to any economic problem which isn't a bailout. They can name it "stimulus", "investment", "swaps", "credit" or what have you, but they're all bailouts, huge giveaways of money to one sector or another - necessarily at the expense of everyone else, since the benefits are targeted but the cost is shared by all.

If this government actually acted Democratic (hint: this means doing things that genuinely have popular support), it would be a totally different story. Where the economy is concerned, "Democrats" have acted far more like aristocrats: "Let them eat stimulus!" - the failed battle cry of 2010.

4. Go republican in November and see how much worse it will be
deregulation and free trade to the point that there is nothing left to do in this nation.

Go for it!

9. free trade is a killer with or without regulation
If we regulate here and keep free trade (the current Democratic policy) - companies evade regulation by sending jobs elsewhere.

If we don't regulate here and keep free trade, we'll keep a few more jobs at the cost of the quality of life produced by regulation.

Actually, that's the ideal circumstance. The reasonable-to-expect circumstance is that regulation will continue to be captured by industry and used as a competitive advantage by large companies against their smaller competitors, giving us the advantages of neither scenario.

Either way as long as we "free trade" with unregulated slave labor economies, we provide huge incentives to kill the US economy, and we are now starting to see the results of that. The end of this road has the US as just another third world labor pool with a tiny percentage of elites controlling all wealth and power... it is not far off at all.

23. And both parties favor free trade.
Edited on Tue Sep-07-10 08:52 AM by Lasher
Obama has been pushing additional free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama and South Korea. More about that after the election, you can be sure. Therefore, with no reasonable alternative for us the voters, regulation as you have described it will be a thing of the past.

I know proponents say we can make regulation part of free trade agreements, but that's just a bad joke. Enforcement of provisions in other countries, such as child labor prohibition, is an exercise in chasing your tail that is soon forgotten after the neoliberals get their way.

10. Thank you for articulating what this OP writer seems so very unaware of.
When the voters have a choice only between the "wolves" and the "wolves in sheep's clothing" - well I for one cannot blame the voters.

I can blame those who are among the Inner Circle of the Elite - who have been figuring this out for years.

We got NAFTA even though it was Bill Clinton, Democrat, at the helm.

And now eighteen years later, we have Obama. He promised, among other things, to phase out NAFTA, Once elected but instead he chose Rahm Emanuel as his Chief of Staff.

Guess Obama did not know that Rahm was Clinton's Right Hand Man on all issues relating to NAFTA.

And we get endless wars, and always financing for wars, regardless of who we vote for.

Meanwhile the jobs are not returning to the United Sates.

The tax cuts for the rich will be put back in place, and if Soical Security has to go the way of the dinosaur to pay for that, so be it.

The Poltical Class are all too similar to street walkers, except occasionally one can find a streetwalker with a heart of gold.

the American public has a very very short attention span and changes its mind on a hourly basis. If the country goes completely the shit (yes it can get worst) always remember this phrase "I vote Democrat".

12. Partially- but it doesn't help when Dems through their own actions, omissions & statements
create the perception that they're unwilling to stand up and fight for popular and effective policies, but are sen instead as cozying up with such popular entities as banksters, health insurers and PhARMA.

It also doesn't help that the President (unlike FDR) failed to remind the people at every opportunity who was responsible for this mess- and instead obsessed over bipartisan fantasies, all the while enabling and legitimizing Republicans and even adopting their policies.

13. Well there are valid reasons to doubt the polls
WHO is getting polled mostly. You don't have a land line? You will not be bothered.

You are of certain age tired of cold calls? How many of you have hung up on pollsters? I know I have. Dewey Trumman comes to mind.

That said there are reasons why I will not blame the voters. Not when the party in power sucks at telling them what they have done. It is almost as if BOTH parties are trying to lose. One by fielding the craze, the other by not controlling the message.

17. I agree with you
but I don't think the American people are crazy enough as a whole to give the keys back to the party who drove us into this ditch, is all I'm saying.

We used to be polled until one evening I got sorta short with the pollster, he was asking me pushy questions and I made a comment about that and that was the last time the phone has ringed from them. We're in the old people bracket too, me 62, my wife 58

11. Thirty years of propaganda
a system that is completely broken

Traditionally the party in power LOOSES some seats in off years election. (Yes I could go into why,but why bother)

A base that feels it's been ignored.

People are JUST NOW starting to pay attention, the voters that is.

And of course a party in power that is having more than just an issue with message and message control.

I won't blame the voters when the voters really don't know what they've done. and it looks to me that the party in power don't care to articulate the message either.

Oh and problem is that this CENTER RIGHT administration has been successfully painted as the most radical, statist, left wing... communist, marxist, nazi administration in US history. I will reach for the tinfoil hat. They want to lose the majority, that way they don't have to listen to the professional left... but that is just me.

19. Yes ....
... but think of what will eventually happen to Republicans and their bullshit ideas if they do get control.

We haven't hit rock bottom yet, and we will not cure our addiction to idiotic economic ideas until we do.

No worries, except for the several years of hell it will take to get there, which we are going to experience whether there is a Dem or a Rep running things, Obama already blew his chance.

Tuesday morning cheer :)

20. I have to question this. First, when was the last time the puntocracy
left the DC bubble? Or talked to an American worker/voter? Or actually did some investigation/research other than at the beltway parties of the plutocracy, puntocracy, politocracy where they disparage the American worker and stroke each other? I see people everyday here and they are revving up for the election. Now, it may be because Rick Scott is running for governor, or maybe not. But the mood is not Republicon.

Just two/three weeks ago, I was despairing, but things are changing.

24. Yes it was.
The TARP scam was perfectly scheduled to occur over the transition so BOTH sides would have Plausible Deniability.

The sad truth is that Obama was one of the chief supporters in the Senate at that time.
The Democratic Party held MAJORITIES in the House & Senate, and the Democratic Party Leadership fell all over themselves to get er done before the American Public had a chance to look at the (lack of) details.

Now THIS is “Bi-Partisanship” !
Better get used to it!!
Hahahahahahahahaha!

It is not really honest to insist that TARP belongs solely to The Republicans.

This is the crux of the problem. You cannot IGNORE the vast majority of your voters on critical legislation, shove such legislation down their throats ANYWAY, and expect your voters not to be ENRAGED.

This should be an OP.
