Re: The Koran burning "christians" in Florida...Anyone have any plans to
burn a few bibles at the same time?

I think it would be a nice gesture.

3. me too...Catcher in the Rye inspired Mark David Chapman to murder John Lennon
When I saw a film that dealt with how Chapman was influenced by Catcher in the Rye, I decided to read the book again to see if it would inspire me to want to murder anyone. After reading the damn thing, the only person I wanted to murder was Holden Caulfield - that ungrateful, spoiled brat.

2. I'd rather counter their ignorance with a message of peace and reconciliation.
Might not get through to all the Qur'an burners, but there's a larger audience out there who needs to hear some truths to counter the lies of the other side.

Besides, Muslims venerate Jesus (and all Prophets), in theory, as highly as Muhammad, and believe that the Bible, while corrupted, contains some of that message intact, so burning a Bible would insult Muslims, too.

4. Burning bibles is as stupid as burning Qurans.
How can you endorse book burnings? Ever hear of Nazi Germany? Ray Bradbury?

16. I didn't endorse anything - I just wondered if anyone announced plans to do it.
I understand there are many protests against these people in Florida, and I just was asking if one of them had decided to burn another "holy" book in protest.

FWIW, the catholics banned many books over the centuries - they burned some of the authors.
Don't forget about them...

9. Great idea. And we can add a Torah to the fire, too. Then I'm sure we can find a Rig-Veda...
and some Buddhist and Confucian texts to make it a real roaring blaze.

And don't forget that Book of Mormon.

(Matching ignorant hateful acts with more ignorant hateful acts works every time.)

12. What? Contribute to global warming?
I sent them an email instead pointing out that by definition a Christian is a follower of Christ who preached tolerance, acceptance and decried hypocrisy. (not bad for an atheist eh? :) )

15. Ten bibles for every Koran is my initial reaction.
Actually I think all Mideastern religions are failures. Look at the Mideast. I get sick of all their crap. and just ignoring them has worked so well. Not.

21. It would be meaningless for most xtians
Most xtians do not revere the objects, but the content. You defile or burn a bible, they have lots of other copies. It really is not an insult to them. If an infidel defiles the Koran, muslims go high order as we have seen repeatedly.

Example: If you use a bible for toilet paper, most xtians would not care, and assume it was a necessity or you were just being inflamatory. If you did the same with a page from a koran under any circumstances, some muslims would ask for your head.

Its an example of why xtians are much less of a threat to others than muslims today. Its not a popular view, but it is accurate.
