American Made: Five Companies Bucking the Outsourcing Trend
Edited on Thu Sep-09-10 07:56 AM by Skinner
Look for those "patriotic" tea baggers to start protesting american companies for hiring american citizens to make products IN AMERICA. Republicans are so damned quick to turn their backs on our country when one of their's isn't in charge. In any case, this is a good article..

http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/americanmadefivecompaniesbuckingtheoutsourcingtrend;

"Labor Day, that traditional American holiday dating back to 1882, invokes a different kind of patriotism this year as Americans struggle to find jobs and a new "American Made" movement takes hold in Congress.

Since 2000, America has lost more than one third - roughly 5.4 million - of its manufacturing jobs. This year, China stands poised for the first time to surpass the United States in terms of manufacturing, according to the Alliance for American Manufacturing.

And, the loss of manufacturing jobs has greatly contributed to the country's overall unemployment problem, according to Julie Reiser, Co-founder & President of Made in USA Certified, a company that certifies member companies as having truly American-made products.

"The lack of jobs is directly related to two decades of outsourcing and people are starting to realize that as we've obliterated our manufacturing base, we've obliterated jobs," Reiser said.

1. From the Ashes of Disaster Grow the Roses of Success
This is exactly what we need, and exactly what Obama will never in a million years get the faintest clue about. Unless he fires all his "advisors" and gets out of his cushy, comfy bubble.

4. It's tough
The power center of the economic world lies out there in the Pacific, in the middle of that plastic swirl of garbage...... metaphorically speaking.

Obama must deal with everyone from the Chinese and their investors down to the drug dealers in Harlem. Not an easy gig. We ask a lot from the government.

But this OP shows what people can do when exercising their freedom. The best the gov can do is stay out of their way and protect them from being ripped off.

2. Could you fix that URL, please!
That long, unbroken string of characters under the link is unnecessary, and it forces endless side-scrolling making the post virtually impossible to read. Thnx!

5. The thing is that these companies...........
are owned and run by people that know and love what they make. There is no disconnect between management and the product. The most important factor is the lack of pressure to provide investors a larger and larger return. When equity teams buy companies the dynamic completely changes from "what we make" to "how much can we make?".

7. In the old days Millie down the road owned stock.....
and she new the workers in the factory and what growth really meant. She was looking at long term investment and that was what people were told. Management was given room to maneuver and think long term.
