I can hardly wait for that massive electoral turnover this November,
when the Republicans capture the House and Senate. I can hardly wait for the impeachment proceedings to begin. The nation is in the midst of a depression mislabeled as a recession, and what we really need right now s for the government to stop in its tracks while lunatic-fringe Republicans search their twisted minds for delusional fantasies that can be spun into grounds for impeachment. A foreign-born President, anyone? “Obamacare” as some sort of illegal seizure of property?

I can hardly wait for that new Republican Congress to pass Paul Ryan’s budget plans. Surely the way out of the nation’s financial doldrums must involve repealing Social Security and Medicare, rolling back minimum wage laws, raising taxes on the poor, and giving the proceeds to the wealthy. Obama will surely be too busy defending himself from impeachment to veto such brilliantly crafted legislation.

I can hardly wait for the Republicans to eliminate all traces of intrusive government regulation on industry. Surely the path to the Promised Land involves opening the way for corporations to operate without burdensome safety rules and busybody environmental laws. We must learn to perceive a slight darkening of the skies and the waters as signs of God’s grace and of the blessings our corporations are bringing to the deserving rich who own them. And really, faced with that wonderful prospect, how dare anyone carp or cavil about some alleged inconveniences for the lesser people?

And to think that it all begins with a simple vote for the Republicans!

1. Funny how you assume if the republicans do infact take the senate and the house
Edited on Tue Sep-07-10 10:44 AM by no limit
that democrats will be total cowards and allow the GOP to progress their agenda.

And people wonder why the liberals are so pissed off.

4. But why would the democrats let them get away with it?
Obama would be able to stop anything they passed. Before it even got to Obama the democrats could block it in the senate.

But you assume, rightfully so, that they won't as we saw during the Bush years. The dems let republicans roll right over them then and now they say that republicans won't let them pass anything. I'm just kind of sick of this bullshit.

9. Yes, nothing in Dem history that would indicate they would just stand by and let the GOP
Edited on Tue Sep-07-10 10:56 AM by AndyA
do whatever it wants to do, or support them in doing it!

During the Bush years, Reid and Pelosi made great White House door mats for Bush and Cheney to wipe their feet on.

17. That seems to be the assumption the OP is making
although that's not an unfair assumption having lived through the Bush years.

10. That's right!
And NOT voting at all is the same as voting for republicans so they can take over congress and that's what the republicans want, for democrats to stay home and not vote, it's the only way they can win, and they know it!

As long as the MSM, owned by the right, keep saying it will be a land slide for republicans, as long as trolls keep coming here and saying the same things and telling us why bother to vote, as long as those who hate Obama and haven't gotten over the fact their candidate lost the primaries keep posting how the president has done nothing, and as long as democrats just "give up" after buying into all the BS, the right wing wins! We can't let that happen.

5. The Republican response to the state of the planet, 2010...
...is shaming wage-earners, shaming retirees, shaming the unemployed, shaming women, shaming gays, shaming immigrants and shaming masturbators.

I see a common thread.

will have the same effect.

13. This thinking runs counter to the progressive stand that there isn't any difference
between the parties. If that were the case than all of those things would have happened already.

18. I count myself as a Progressive.
I count myself as unhappy with much of what has transpired under the Obama Administration. I think the Health Care legislation, and the preliminary negotiating process that created it, were badly botched. I think it was a mistake to pour stimulus $$ into the coffers of the rich instead of into the needs of the poor. It sort of worked, but it was both less efficient and less humane than it could have been. I think we need a huge public-sector work program. And so on.

Nevertheless, as fucked up as the Dems are, things could only be worse in Milwaukee under the Republicans. (Sorry--little flashback to Deteriorata in the National Lampoon circa 1972 there).

25. I always thought that was one of the best sendups in history.
For any young whippersnappers who found their way into this subthread, here it is in its entirety:

Deteriorata

(National Lampoon)
(You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
Deteriorata, Deteriorata)

Go placidly amidst the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof. Avoid quiet and passive persons, unless you are in need of sleep. Rotate your tires. Speak glowingly of those greater than yourself; and heed well their advice, even though they be turkeys. Know what to kiss - and when. Consider that two wrongs never make a right, but that three do. Wherever possible, put people on hold. Be comforted, that in the face of all irridity and disillusionment, and despite the changing fortunes of time, there is always a big future in computer maintenance.

(You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
Whether you can hear it or not,
The universe is laughing behind your back.)

Remember the Pueblo. Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle, and mutilate. Know yourself. If you need help, call the FBI. Exercise caution in your daily affairs, especially with those persons closest to you... That lemon on your left, for instance. Be assured that a walk through the seas of most souls would scarcely get your feet wet. Fall not in love, therefore, it will stick to your face. Gracefully surrender the things of youth: the birds, clean air, tuna, Taiwan - and let not the sands of time get in your lunch. Hire people with hooks. For a good time, call 606-4311, ask for Ken. Take heart in the deepening gloom that your dog is finally getting enough cheese. And reflect that whatever misfortune may be your lot, it could only be worse in Milwaukee.

(You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
Whether you can hear it or not,
The universe is laughing behind your back.)

Therefore, make peace with your god, whatever you perceive him to be: hairy thunderer or cosmic muffin. With all its hopes, dreams, promises, and urban renewal, the world continues to deteriorate. GIVE UP!

(You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
Whether you can hear it or not,
The universe is laughing behind your back.)

14. mehhhh...
won't happen... they probably won't take the Senate. And they won't bring up impeachment... they'll simply investigate everything since 1/09 and make LOTS of smoke that LOOKS like fire... they want to beat Obama in '12, and with the help of the MSM they'll make Obama look like a really bad guy.
