Georgia mayor to sign baggy pants ban (baggy skirts too, oh my)

http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/09/07/georgia.baggy.pants.law/index.html?hpt=T2

The mayor of Dublin, Georgia, is expected to sign an ordinance Tuesday that prohibits the wearing of saggy pants. Violators face fines up to $200.

-snip-

It bans the wearing of pants or skirts "more than three inches below the top of the hips exposing the skin or undergarments."

"We've gotten several complaints from citizens saying the folks with britches down below their buttocks was offensive, and wasn't there something we could do about it," Best said.

-snip-

Dublin is not alone in its pull-up-the-pants campaign. Riviera Beach, Florida, and Flint, Michigan, passed bans against sagging pants in recent years, but the Riviera Beach legislation later was declared unconstitutional after a court challenge.
-snip-
--------------------

they got 'several complaints'. no, really, they did.

1. What are they going to do when the repairman shows up?
Will they wait until after Mr. Asscrack fixes the damned thing before they call the cops on him, or will they sacrifice expedience to propriety and call them first to monitor his arse when he stoops down?

5. Racist against White people and their lack of an ass to keep their pants up.
I'm one of them and there isn't a belt that i can wear without eventual pain or pants sag.

9. many people just don't understand
the hatred and spite that old geezer rednecks feel when they see a couple AA youths walking down the street with low rise pants, baseball hats and a Jersey on... it's like an allergy.

3. Or, they could leave it alone
and the fad would die out on its own.

Like it is tending to do in most parts of the country.

6. I haven't seen evidence that it is.
It's the longest on-going trend I've ever witnessed.

And, it's a stupid fashion statement: born from prison where inmate pants were baggy because their belts were taken away in an attempt to keep them from hanging themselves (or others).

16. What does it say about our society
that enough people, especially black and brown people, have been in prison so that prison is cool?

12. This has happened before, you know.

In the 40s, gangs of white racists would go around beating and stripping hispanic and black youths for wearing baggy "zoot suits."

Authorities responded by outlawing zoot suits.
