Church 'praying' about plan to burn Quran, pastor says after warning
so they are asking their god if it's ok to burn another god's bible?

MIAMI — A church planning to burn copies of the Quran on Sept. 11 is 'definitely praying' about the controversial demonstration, its pastor said after Gen. David Petraeus warned it would put in danger the lives of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan.

In an interview on CNN, Terry Jones, of the Dove World Outreach Church in Gainesville, Fla., appeared to suggest church members might decide not to go ahead with the controversial demonstration.

Jones, author of a book called "Islam is of The Devil," told CNN's "American Morning" show that the burning was designed to send a message to radical Islam.

But when he was asked about the views of Petraeus, the U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan, Jones said: "We are actually very, very concerned of course; we are taking the general's words serious. We are continuing to pray about the action on September 11. But we don't know, how long do we back down?"

1. Quite a supporter of the troops isn't he?
No less than Petraeus says it will put soldiers lives in danger and they are still going ahead with it? And another thing, isn't a Dove supposed to be a bird of peace? How is burning a religious article to "send a message" peaceful? I mean if anyone of the Muslim faith burned a christian bible, these people would probably shoot them on sight. So I think they need to change the name of their organization and just chill out.

2. If idiots like Terry Jones truly believe they need to fight the devil by burning the Quran,
then they should go to Saudi Arabia and do it right in front of Wahhabists, or in front of Shia in Iran.

3. They seem to forget that their savior is in the business of...
forgiving sin.

"But we don't know, how long do we back down?" Forgive seventy times seven you fucking idiot.

5. Reading Jones' words
I don't see where he's saying he might back down. They're praying up a storm at Dove World, I have no doubt. What they are praying for, however, is probably not guidance on their planned course of action; they've already decided to do it, and Jones knows how it he would look to his flock if he told his minions not to burn their books (hint: not good). In fact, he doesn't dare back down. As much as burning books might provoke people thousands of miles away, changing his mind and not burning books would look far worse to people much closer to him. People who clearly don't have too much compunction about using violence as a means of attaining their ends.

Jones may have painted himself into a corner, but short of a convenient divine revelation, he's going to chance pissing off a bunch of far-off Muslims rather than the people in his pews.
