I think it's required reading for any conservative who wants to know what to do in case our country is attacked again.

The book is part of the thirty-one volume Reading Mastery series published by the SRA Macmillan early-childhood education division of McGraw-Hill. It uses the direct instruction teaching style.

4. Thanks Ian, I know the correct title is The Pet Goat, but most know it by My Pet Goat.

And thanks for that extra data too, especially the poem. I had second thoughts and changed the title, thanks...

18. Two things
1 First of all, the book itself isn't particularly right wing. There was a New Yorker article about the author and he was... somewhat surprised to find himself a political football.
2 Why not burn the flag? I really have a distaste for the people who say to burn the Bible, because there have been so many CHristian leaders condemning the koran burning. But the flag... It truly is a symbolic act.

Or do like ABbie Hoffman and burn money. Technically, that *is* a crime, however.

5. I think they would prefer to forget all about that book.
You need to burn the Bible or something by Ann Coulter.

6. No. The proper material to burn on 911 is a copy of the patriot act.

16. No, I think actually, the proper thing to burn is the Constitution
that or use it for toilet paper. Goddess knows the people who benefited from the attack (hint, not Bin Laden) sure did.

8. I joked around the other day...
about burning a bible in response to the asshats that are going to be burning a koran. But when it comes down to reality, I cannot advocate the burning of any book. Even books by Coulter and other sleaze. These books should remain to act as a record of how stupid and hateful some people can be, kind of like "Mein Kampf".

17. I understand & appreciate what you said, but if you were out of toilet paper would you use it then?
I understand your objections to book burning but if you needed toilet paper would you consider using pictures of Hannity, Coulter, Palin or Limblah to serve as toilet paper?

Get that either. According to these folks, Christian terrorists don't exist and have never existed. Sigh.

21. Burn GW & his family's "books"
Yep, The Joker, Babs, Poppy, and the twinbrat's books (not that they wrote 'em, lol, or even read them...) Also burn the video of his drunkee-daugher's segments on Good Morning America while you're at it. Oh. And this appalling interview :

http://www.lhj.com/style/covers/george-w-bush-and-laura-bush/?page=6

(It's the " hah ha we had a good laugh on the night of 9/11..." GW & The Joker interview by Noonan.)

Oh and the Patriot Ack.

Left typo "ack" there -- it sorta fits.

24. One of my teenaged sons posed the question over dinner
tonight, "how crazy would that preacher and most of the people around us get if someone in this country suggested burning bibles?"

We laughed at the imagery of people running around not knowing how to react, stumbling over themselves in their outrage and confusion.

27. Please, do not.
ArmyVeteran:

I am one of the last people to take the Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm-type high road in such a case.

But I would ask you, plead with you, not to burn any book, however odious or offensive it might be. I would ask and plead that you not even approach becoming one of the things most reasonable people find so despicable about the intolerant.

Perhaps I'm overstating here. Perhaps you mean this sincerely in jest or as sarcasm. Which is perfectly grand.

It just seems to me—this is my opinion, and others are more than free to tell me to stuff it—that burning any book one disagrees with or finds offensive in any way great or small a tragic act.

I am not lecturing you. Simply expressing a deeply held conviction, and requesting that NO ONE burn books. Truly, such an act accomplishes nothing of good. I hope I've not offended.
