I guess that's out of the question huh? We don't want to get all nasty and make scenes and such right?

2. Is it "OMG Flag Burning" season again?

Heck, they wanted to amend the Constitution to prohibit flag burning.

As if there was some wave of that going on...

3. Actually at this point
It might not be a bad idea if these idiots go through with that.

Reason is... they don't respect ANY religion... not just us.

It would get the usual responses from the usual quarters, the exact same quarters that should be stepping up to the plate and making some real noise about this.

Oh and while at it... add a few flags... it IS free speech after all. And unlike the people who will react in predictably violent ways, we are not in the 12th century. At least most of us are not.

4. I'm hosting a one-person "Don't Read The Bible Day"
Yep, just me. On September 11th, I'm going to pick up my roommate's Bible, look it over thoughtfully, spend a moment contemplating the Pastor Joneses and Glenn Becks of the world, and then go read porn instead.

Won't do any good at all, but f*ck it, it'll be cathartic.

that in many some Muslim nations finding a bible to burn would be a difficult task. And possibly illegal.

I'm in no way defending the knucklehead pastor.

8. "Many"?

Not the two I've been in (Morocco, Egypt).

There are Christians in Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Iran, and most majority-Muslim countries.

The extreme cases are places like Saudi Arabia, which is not typical.

What is your basis for "many"?

11. On the contrary
I have it on reliable authority that I could use even the announced threat of a mass Bible burning as a justification and rationale for any old thing that I want to do. Rioting? Killing? Drunk driving? Overtime parking? The sky's the limit, baby! All I have to do is say, "Well, Philosoraptor said he was thinking about holding a public Bible burning, and so I'm not responsible for my own actions." And there would be hordes of people willing to blame you instead of me for my criminal acts/foolishness.

It's like a get out of jail free card! Whoopee!

15. It would not spark violence
Whatever I think of Christians and their phony religion, they've not been terribly violent over grievances of perceived religious intolerance of late.

Actually, I prefer we send Terry Jones to Saudi Arabia to watch him burn the Ouran in Mecca. Now THAT would be entertaining! :D

23. that's exactly what they want: this meaningless tit for tat that lets them play the victim.
shaming & standing on the nobility of democratic/american principles is more effective.

once the spiral of retribution starts it takes on a nasty life of its own.
