Is It My Imagination, Or Are There More Than A Number Of...
posts that... hmmm... seem to deal with the level of... ahem... Democratic Fealty/Loyalty here today???

Trying to be careful so as not to accuse, or flambe'...

I mean we have one thread basically asking for the Admins to get a promised survey out so we can see which "side" people are on, and how another site somewhere organizes Dem Deflation threads to cause trouble here.

There's another about how DailyKos busted a Rand Paul Troll, which is a great thing, yet has devolved into accusations of similar types of trolls here and what should be done about them.

And a third, asking when it became such a bad thing to be a rootin-tootin Dem/Obama supporter. Which is a new one on me.

I know the official election season began today, and I realize we are worried about a major November catastrophe, but if I'm reading these threads correctly, it's a curious way to swell the ranks of Dem leaning voters and advance GOTV efforts!

I mean shit... I just got home from work 30 minutes ago, and this was the very first thing I noticed going on here.

18. You know it...
I responded to a post today that re-iiterated the rules, to be on this board you "must support progressive ideas and support Democrats". I was wondering how I am supposed to follow both those rules when Democrats don't support progressive ideas.

I actually saw a couple posts today saying we should be more like Republicans who don't ever question their leaders

7. Why should people be forced to choose sides here?
Edited on Tue Sep-07-10 06:06 PM by prolesunited
These purity tests are becoming more and more divisive. One of the things I've always valued here is the ability to see things in many shades of gray and grasp the complexity of how things work.

But, I guess the show of support for Democrats on a site call DEMOCRATIC Underground is some big conspiracy.

I've been here from year one. I liked it a lot better when we were fighting a common enemy -- Bush and the Republicans -- than each other. And don't be so disingenuous to act as if there are no organized disruptions at DU.

13. Define "... organized disruptions at DU."
Because if you are suggesting that there may be folks here (paid/volunteer) trying to cause trouble, well that's been true of every political site, right or left, from the beginning of the Internet.

If you're telling me that there is a group here that conspires to voice their disappointment/dissatisfaction with Obama and some Dem politicians in some organized stealthy way, I think you may have taken one too many bites of the paranoid pomegranate.

8. You know what, WillyT?
I'm not even going to click on those threads you mention because I'm not a national rah-rah type of girl. I'm working on what I can work on -- getting the best candidates I can elected in Alaska. With Joe the Teabagger and SP version 2.0 and funny but corrupt Don Young as the Democrats' opposition here, it's easy for me to make a choice. Thankfully, none of our candidates are Blue Dogs, so I don't have to hold my nose.

On the other hand, if I was faced with a Blanche Lincoln, for example, and there was a good Green candidate running, I might be tempted to leave the reservation, so to speak.

10. Having been accused
(rightfully) of trolling on FR (haven't been back since my last account cancellation--running out of ISPs!), I just chuckle when I see them here. There's nothing new about trolls on DU, and certainly nothing ominous. It is likely a typical response pattern as we run up to the election. Among teabaggy/conservative trolls, trolling often smacks of desperation or paranoia, where us liberal trolls typically roll around in schadenfreude, or else simply agree with and embellish the most batshit-insane postings on conservative sites. We don't bother with sarcasm, which only works when the target "gets it", and that's too much to expect from a bunch of MORANS with their blinders on.

As you can probably guess, I'm pretty confident that there will be no maelstrom of lost seats come November, and if there is, the nation of MORANS deserve what they get.

24. you don't get it -- it's the *left* that's the problem here!
it's all a genius ploy, you see. people come here *pretending* to be Dems (despite the fact that they've been here for years and fought all the injustices of the Bush admin -- doesn't matter), and you can tell who is a traitor by the way they offer criticisms of the President. no loyal Dem would criticize the President. Or, Dem House or Senate members -- that's how you can tell they're trolls!!!

it's all so clear now.

26. Absolutely not.
We have exactly 57 ninja trolls on this board and I have a list to prove it.

Seriously though, any purge attempt here is going to get a poor reception. We're Democrats and the one thing in our DNA we won't part with is a healthy skepticism for authority as well as a stubborn attachment to critical thinking no matter who happens to be in charge.

28. I just got home 30 minutes ago, and my first thought
after glancing at the front page of GD and browsing a few threads was "HOLY SHIT. This is going to be the worst election season I've ever experienced at DU. I think it's even going to make the '08 primaries look mild."

Apparently, some are seeing the writing on the wall, and expect the party to go down in flames in November, and they know it's because Obama has disenfranchised too many. Fear will do that; drive people into displays of fear, anger, and blame. So the bullies are out acting as if they can dictate someone's vote over the internet, or hoping to be nasty enough to drive dissenters off so it will look like the party is more unified than it is.

The fear-mongers are fanning the flames.

And it has absolutely no positive effect on the choices voters make. The only real effect may be that they turn MORE people away, who are just sick of partisan bullying and excuse-making.

The funny thing? While I'm disgusted by many of the campaign "strategies" that are supposed to get me to shut up and get in line, I will be voting for most, maybe all, of the Democrats on my ballot this November. There's only one that was ever a question.

They aren't Obama, and, with one exception, are worthy of my vote. It's a good thing I don't let others' foolishness, poor communication skills, or false, weak, and counter-productive talking points dictate my choices.

37. Being in CA --
I will be happy to cast my vote for the two big Dems -- Boxer and Brown. But I have not hesitated to made other choices in similar races when the candidate was just not my cup of tea. DiFi hasn't gotten my vote since her first run, and piss off to anyone who would dare scold me for that choice. We have long needed a better option for CA but the old Burton/now Pelosi Machine is just so strong that such a intra-party challenge is just not allowed. :(

If I were a paranoid type, I'd be inclined to think that they protest too much, as many of them set such a poor example that it wouldn't be difficult to suspect their motives have been something less than sincere, to say the least.
