Do you personally know someone changing to a GOP vote in Nov.?
I live in a liberal bubble in Seattle. My congressman, "Bagdhad Jim" McDermott (D-WA7), will likely be re-elected with 80% of the vote. I know maybe 3 "independents"/republicans outside of my straight-GOP ticket relatives in Cincinnati. It's hard for me to fathom that anyone with a 3rd grade education would think about giving any power back to these incompetent sociopaths.

I'm truly curious:
A. Do you personally know someone who voted for Obama in 2008 who's going to vote for a GOP Senate, Congress, or State office candidate this November?
B. If so, have you asked them
B.1. WTF?
B.2. what they think will get accomplished?
C. How do you keep from shaking them violently?

1. No, but
my conservative (moderate) husband has declared he's going to vote for Alex Sink in November! I'm still working on him about Meek, but still!

As for what you asked:

A. No
B. N/A

10. She sounds like Robin Carnahan
So many Democrats who want to cut spending, anything not on one's own agenda is wasteful, btw. How can so many at DU not hear them?

16. What plagues this state now...
Edited on Wed Sep-08-10 09:25 AM by Dappleganger
1) Out of control republicans pushing through far right-wing "morality" laws (anti-abortion, anti-gay, anti-women, anti-minorities, anti-immigrant)
2)Republicans from Tallahassee down to the city and county levels giving one another giant pork project funding, while at the same time completely defunding help for the poor, the elderly and children.
3)Republicans on all levels being anti-public education and pushing this taxpayer-funded-charter-school-race-to-the-bottom garbage. What happens is that the republicans are funding THEIR RELIGIOUS SCHOOLS as well as schools which have NO BUSINESS interacting with children, being given our TAXPAYER MONEY with NO OVERSIGHT.
4)Republicans believing that financial accountability is a one-way street.
5)Republicans with no dream or changing FL for the better. Their only message is what they fear and who they do not wish to live next to (NIMBY mentality).

Alex Sink has been a very vocal person about all of the above issues. I've been following her very closely over the past year and am quite impressed with her character, her message to the people as well as how she works with others. I believe that she is a solid democrat in the most important areas which affect Floridians at this time and will have the SPINE to regularly veto out of control republican bills from Tallahassee. Let's face it, the tea parties are moving into FL and for the most part have a stranglehold in many areas. Alex has the guts to stand up to them and not get caught up in their pettiness while bringing this state forward.

2. My best friend indicated she was leaning toward Carly here in
CA because she thinks Boxer has been in there too long. I told her to do some research on Carly and get back to me. Sometimes I think she just says that kind of shit to get me riled up, but this time I didn't fall for it. When I told her to do the research I told her then to tell my why in the world she would vote for Carly. Bet that's the end of that arguement.

4. Yes. Several
I live in a red area that briefly swung blue for Obama in 2008. The area seems to be firmly in the red again.

The bigger issue, I think, is the loss of the youth vote. Young voters were fired up in 2008, and political debates were a near-daily occurrence. I was amazed at the number of students who told me they'd registered just to vote for Obama.

There seems to be zero political interest among my students this time around. The ONLY thing that piques their interest AT ALL is Prop 19, and my classrooms are pretty evenly split among the pro/anti crowd. No matter where they stand on the issue, it looks like only a few of them are going to bother actually VOTING on the proposition...most are merely content to argue about it.

I've had ONE student bring up the Boxer/Fiorina contest. The rest of the class responded with blank stares. They just didn't care, and didn't follow it, so we moved on to another topic.

6. No. I just know people who are declining to vote or voting 3rd party.
I'm sure I "know" some Republican voters at work but we don't talk about politics so I have no idea.

7. I know many who are down right angry with Obama...
But vow to never, ever vote Republican.

The only people I know who are voting Pubbie are the old die hard Pubbies... Bush's Backwash.

11. No, but I know a few that just won't go vote, and they were very active in 2008
activities related to getting Dems elected, and they are not going to give a $ or time or energy.

17. I don't talk politics down here in Houston -
but I sure will be voting because White vs. Perry for governor is a huge deal. As far as Texas politicians go White was a very good mayor for Houston. With all of his support here we might actually be able to get him in.
