Nebraska Democrats Call for Investigation of Gov. Heineman (blackmail)

At first Nebraska Democrats accused Governor Dave Heineman (NE-R) of ”blackmail politics,” now it’s just plain blackmail.

Nebraska Democratic Party State Chairman Vic Covalt is calling on Republican Attorney General Jon Bruning to investigate possible felony bribery charges against Heineman.

Covalt’s allegations stem from an August 25th letter Heineman sent to three educators in the state. Heineman noted the three should support the repeal of the federal health care law or the Governor will assume they support cuts to education funding.

On Friday September 3rd, Covalt, who says Heineman is using his office for a “personal, political advantage”, wrote Bruning asking why the Attorney General has not launched a “prompt, thorough, and public” investigation of Heineman’s actions.

Last week in an exclusive on camera interview with Nebraska Watchdog, Heineman was asked if he regretted anything he wrote to the educators. Heineman answered, “Absolutely not.”
