I say boycott CBS's new show with Tom Selleck.
He's been a long time Republican.

1. No one has to ask me to boycott. Learned long ago he's a pug and long ago he became ugly. Why
bother watching something like that?

4. Looks like the new show is putting out the message that cops beating people
can be justified.

14. I thought they already did that with "The Shield" and
"24", two shows I stopped watching after the first few.

21. "The Shield"...
portrayed police violence as part of a slippery slope. The show suggested brutality can get you what you want in the short term, but leads to corruption and destruction. The violent cops eventually murder each other, are murdered, kill their families and commit suicide, go to prison, or live shunned and in shame. I don't think there are any exceptions.

There was a season or two when the writers failed, when they portrayed police brutality as a Necessary Good, but over all they did a good job, IMO, showing how the short-term expediency of roughing up witnesses and suspects ultimately does no one any good, leading to destroyed lives and damaged communities.

5. Viewers can't boycott TV shows since they are not the customer
Only advertisers can boycott shows which is why effective boycotts target sponsors.

We are what TV sells -- they sell the spot in front of our collective eyeballs and ears in 15 second increments. We, audiences, are the product.

6. So was my beloved late father....
Selleck, to my knowledge has never been one of the rabid types... So, while I rarely watch tv at all, his political views, unless he uses them in a very harmful way, are not my concern.

A Milkbone is a better actor, anyway.

12. No! I watch shows for the writing and hopefully
actors who can interpret the writers' intent. I will watch this show with that in mind and decide whether I want to watch it again or not depending on the story and characters. I don't believe actors' work should be judged by their political beliefs or how they live their personal lives. It has nothing to do with their craft or lack of it. Some very popular and talented actors and actresses wouldn't be so if their fans knew exactly what they are like in real life. However, if Selleck decides to go into politics and run for some office like Governor, I will definitely put him and all his films and work on boycott, just like I did to Arnold.

I'm using all my boycotting powers on NBC's "Outsourced". However if it makes you feel better, I had no intention of watching Tom Selleck's new show in the first place.

23. I think he did the Stone Movies very well.
He seemed to have the feel of the character Robert Parker wrote about. Most TV shows now a days don't have political content. Altho Law and Order, the original definitely had a liberal slant.

24. If's it's bad I won't watch, but his being a republican isn't reason enough.
A one hour drama creates hundreds of union jobs, so I don't judge shows by the politics of an actor or director. Now, if it's crap I won't watch it. (This one does look like crap)

29. Would you say the same if it was Mel Gibson?
It's your choice, but I cannot stomach the thought of helping to line the pockets of a repuke. Better that Selleck's show gets canceled, and those union workers can be put to work on another, less repulsive show.

33. I would say the same. His movies employee even more people than a TV show does.
Selleck would be paid out the entire season's contract anyway because he's a star and almost assuredly has a play-or-pay clause in his contract. It won't hurt him at all. While the bulk of those carpenters, painters, teamsters, caterers, grips, costumers, and cameramen would be unemployed for months.

28. Then you should boycott all networks -- the CEOs are likely Republican.
Then again, boycotting a program simply based on the way the actor involved votes is stupid on its face.
