Does anyone remember the PBS show "Zoom" from the 70's?
For some reason it popped into my head tonight and I remembered loving it as a kid.

Turns out there was a reason I loved it so much, it was pretty much brilliant IMO. I haven't seen it in 38 years.

70's kids rocked! More on youtube.

11. It was before Sesame Street, wasn't it?
The decades have all blurred together . . .

15. nope. Electric Company, Zoom and Sesame Street were all on
at about the same time for me. Zoom did disappear though. I'm 41 so I may not remember which was on first.

16. I'm thinking of Dr. Zoom, a crazy scientist on a kids' show.
It was in the 1960s. Maybe it was local to Portland.

I watched Electric Company and Sesame Street with my niece, but Dr. Zoom was from my childhood, and I'm 55.

I loved, LOVED Zoom, they brought it back for a while in the early 2000's, but it wasn't nearly as good

4. I remember that show. That brings back memories.
My kids watched the revival a few years ago. It was replaced by another very good show, Fetch, that was sadly just canceled due to funding issues.

5. I remember it. It was okay, but most of my friends thought it was lame
compared to Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers and Captain Kangaroo, anyway. Then again, this was in Mississippi where one of my friends still drives a 65 Mustang and listens to heavy metal. He does not have a mullet, though.

7. Zoom was great
I loved all the less well known kids shows like Zoom, also Vegetable Soup, Electric Company, Thunderbirds, and Gumby just to name a few. YouTube can really bring back those sweet memories of old shows. Remember Barnaby Jones, I heard that old theme music on YouTube and was back in the 70's. Fun.

35. I shouldn't say this, but...
when I worked retail a number of years ago, we drones conducted an ongoing revolt against inept management. So when we were ordered to collect customers' zip codes, we of course gave the customers a choice of two: Zoom (ohhh two one three four!) or Monkey's Eyebrow, Kentucky. I think it ended up being pretty evenly split, with Zoom having a slight edge. (Immature, I know, but hey--management was a nightmare. We had to lash out somehow. ;) )

9. If I remember correctly, every Friday, they would have a "round-up" show.
Kind of like The Mickey Mouse Club. They would close out the Friday show with a big song and dance number. Usually a Broadway tune, but every once in a while, a popular song. My favorite song and dance number ever from "ZOOM" was The Beatles' "Octopuses Garden."

They did an imaginative undersea setting, and a pretty good arrangement of the song, considering it was just kids.

I loved that show...

Aah, good memories of elementary school days. Last time I watched PBS Kids regularly was mid-2001 I believe. In the mid-2000s I began watching the rest of PBS and haven't stopped since.

14. I was in my 30s when it was on and I was a rabid fan.
I used to race home from work to catch it. The kids were wonderful.

Sesame Street was created in the 60s. It was followed by The Electric Company. Zoom was later.

27. Say you wake up in the middle of the night...
You got an idea that's outta sight
So you jump outta bed and look around your room
You gotta write it all down
And send it to Zoom

Or say you've just seen somethin' on this show
Or someone cool you just gotta know
Write it all down -- don't make a mess
And don't forget your name and address

Include a stamp so we can drop your card
Or dip your note in a bucket of lard
Joe doesn't know what he's talkin' about
You put it in an envelope without a doubt

Then take your typewriter, pencil or pen
And if you make a mistake, you gotta do it again

Write ZOOM
Z-double-O-M
Box Three-Five-Oh
Boston, Mass
OH-two-ONE-three-FOUR

Uh-huh, I remember it. I had a mad crush on Nina when I was 11.
