LA Times: Is Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks Getting An MSNBC Show?
On the media: For Young Turk Cenk Uygur, TV is the next frontier
http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-onthemedia-20100908,0,435910.column

"Cable executives hope fill-in hosts can at best hold on to the audiences they inherit. But MSNBC insiders said they believe Uygur did so well because many of those who watch his three-hour weekday Web program, (3 to 6 p.m. PDT) or clips on his YouTube channel jumped to MSNBC when Ratigan was out....

MSNBC President Phil Griffin called Uygur "part of our family" and expects him to get "more and more" air time, though he declined to specify in what time slots.....

He scoffs at the suggestion that MSNBC can't catch up with cable-leader Fox News. "They don't mind throwing bombs and picking fights," Uygur said. "But if anyone on the other side has the temerity, they will have a great success or even greater success than Fox, because there are more progressives out there."'

1. Maybe they'll finally dump Tweety. Isn't his contract up for renewal this year?

Cenk is a perfect fit for MSNBC. I'm sure he'll have his own show before too long.

Still don't watch Tweety as he was a cheerleader for those who were cheerleading the war.

But, he says he was always against the war in Iraq. I remember his * years coverage. I don't watch Tweety.

44. I hope so. I can't stand how he constantly interrupts everyone.
Edited on Thu Sep-09-10 11:21 AM by Towlie
Most of the time I can't even guess what the guests were trying to say when he succeeds in stopping them in mid-sentence, and when two people are talking at once, it's just unintelligible irritating noise. Tweety's heart is generally in the right place and he has his good moments, but I know I could never tolerate those interruptions if I was his guest.

Of course Keith Olbermann's interviews aren't much better. His fault is that every guest is solidly on his side and the interviews all seem transparently scripted and unrealistic. After listening to one of his overly complex questions in a real live interview, most guests would probably answer "Huh?"

Go, Cenk, go! If they dunno, they better ast somebody!(sic)

8. Shit, dump Tweety completely and put Cenk on and ANOTHER..........
.......liberal in the "rerun" slot. I won't name names, but we all know there are a lot of good liberal talkers out there. And, get rid of douchebag Joe in the morning. MSNBC could turn their franchise into a "young", liberal network that could attract a lot of younger people and older liberals like myself. I can always dream.

...realize that Cenk is their future. He's young and brings his own following. What's not to like?

51. Give Ratigan some credit for putting Cenk on the air
Apart from that, I don't know much about him, to be honest, but giving Cenk some airtime is something he deserves credit for (assuming it wasn't imposed upon him from above)

he loses it for talking over Cenk, most of the time parroting GOP talking points.

Love seeing Cenk getting some positive press. I hope Cenk gets his own show, but I also want him to be able to do TYT. He is a powerhouse and the strongest progressive voice we have. If he gets his own show, he will be bigger than Rachel Maddow I guarantee it. I cant wait to see the right-wings reaction to Cenk as he gets more and more famous.

move Ed to 5 and then do the Young Turks from for a two hour program from 6-8.

49. I Really, Really Like Ratigan & Think His Relationship With Cenk Has
shown a LIGHT on how GREAT Cenk is!! Why does MSNBC have to have TWEETY on TWO TIMES each evening??? It would seem more sensible to either drop Tweety at 5:00 PM or the 7:00 PM slot! Ratigan was on at 9:00 AM at first before they gave him a better time slot at 4:00 PM, and then Dylan started having Cenk fill in and/or making regular comments!!

It would be GREAT if they dumped Joe Scarboob in the morning and put Cenk in for at least an hour, but that would make it very, very early for the West Coast! I think an early evening or something around then would be better! No matter, giving him his own show would be a BIG plus IMO!! My opinions coincide with his so much more than Joe's show and he has THREE hours!! I rarely watch him anyway!

BUT WE NEED MORE reporters or commentators like him rather than less!! I think he's more of a Democrat than many Democrats in Congress myself!!

JMHO!!

Texas time:

3pm Dylan Ratigan
4pm Chris Matthews
5pm Ed Schultz
6pm CENK UYGUR (Hardball repeat time-slot)
7pm Keith Olbermann
8pm Rachel Maddow
9pm Lawrence O'Donnell

and give that slot to Cenk. Ever seen Joe off his show? He's even more of ass. I can't stand the guy.

I like Lawrence O'Donnell as a person and I don't expect his show to do that well. I could see Cenk there or Tamron Hall as well.

I'd agree with some others that MSNBC should expand their weekend night news coverage and lose the prison shows. I often find myself stuck with CNN because of that.

38. MSNBC needs to work on
getting their channel on the lowest cable/satellite tier. I would have to spend $15 more a month to get MSNBC. There is genuinely not a single other channel on the 2nd tier that i would consider watching. I'm convinced that is one of the only reason Fux news has been dominant for so long...

Oh and hiring Cenk would be good too!
