he study found no difference with respect to officer education when it came to arrests or searches of suspects. But it found that in encounters with crime suspects, officers with some college education or a four-year degree resorted to using force 56 percent of the time, while officers with no college education used force 68 percent of the time.


And better educated citizens use less "moran".

1. education or intellect?

That's the problem with these studies. Maybe it is just better education.

Or maybe, cops who get higher education are smarter than cops who do not. I hate to stereotype but the general view of the less intelligent is that they are often more brutal.

What modern police force hires non-college educated anyway? I think you need at least an associates degree in my city.

2. Perhaps the next step in the study would be to measure things like

IQ or EQ (social ease) and see whether less educated policemen with higher IQs use less force and etc.

7. I don't think it's a requirement in my town

Doesn't seem to be the case, anyway, from the officers I know.

6. Doesn't surprise me at all

I've run into a few with real chips on their shoulders about their lack of education - they seemed to think being "tougher" made up for it.
