Dr. Laura on n-word critics: ‘That’s how it started in Germany’
Now she's intensified her rhetoric, complaining that attacks on her by the "thought police" are "how it started in (Nazi) Germany."

Schlessinger began a segment of her radio show on Tuesday by quoting from Leroy Towns, a journalism professor at the University of North Carolina who formerly served for many years as the chief of staff to Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS).

"Here’s further evidence the right of free speech is being replaced by The Right Not To Be Offended," Towns wrote. He went on to describe how Schessinger had come "under attack from the ultra-liberal group Media Matters," whose spokesperson had refused to accept her apology "because his group was concerned about Schlessinger’s overall attitudes toward race, more than just the N-word."

"Got attitude?" Towns concluded. "The thought police are coming for you."

"That's pretty serious stuff," Schlessinger remarked, possibly taking Towns' "thought police" reference more literally than he had intended it. "And it doesn't start with the government. It starts when small interest groups -- groups that are supported and aided by political parties -- decide that they are the guardians of what is politically correct."

5. Laura, Laura, Laura...
No this isn't like Germany. There is no thought police. There are just people who think what you said was insensitive and racist. No one is dragging you out of you house and kicking you in the guts.

I think Laura seems to think that "The Right Not To Be Offended should only apply to her.

10. That's it! If the damn Jews would have kept their place, none of that would have happened.
Thank God that Dr. Laura is an expert in history as well as everything else under the sun.

Where would we be without her over-credentialed expert self offering her commentary on everything? We'd be fucking lost as a species, that's where we'd be.

7. No, shitstain, it was people NOT speaking out that allowed it to start in Germany.
Unless she's bemoaning that "it" means Studenten Gegen Hitler, for example, which which would be more my guess- the hateful illiterati fake expert I'm sure is pissed off at all anti-Nazi countermovements for stopping her glorious model and idol.

24. She's a unusually high functioning narcissist.
That's how she functions.

Essentially, her entire show is telling people what SHE would do in their position.

She wraps it up in a tidy rationalization of "values" and "principles" and "ethics" that when scratched is shown to be less than a molecule thick.

The way in which she dismissed her caller's concern as petty was an unscripted glimpse into who she REALLY is, rather than character she tries to pass off as.

It's not the only issue where she shows that maybe her system ain't all that.

What is fascinating to me why people would have any real respect for her when it is so obvious that she's not living up to her professed values.

11. Whatever, "doctor" Laura
I'm anxious to find out if I miss her when she goes away. Go away soon, "Dr." Laura. Nobody's censoring you; you just won't have a highly-compensated sinecure from which to declaim. Your right to free speech hasn't been abridged - your right to be paid fabulous sums of money for doing so has been curtailed, but that was your own choice. Deal with it.

17. So a j-school "professor" who uses inflated language like "ultra-liberal"
which itself should be considered an ideological red flag of bias, is convinced free speech is being replaced by the freedom not to be offended. Well, unless HE is offended, in which case there somehow seems to be enough free speech around to let him write about how offended he is by the idea that free speech is being replaced by the freedom not to be offended.

Why do I get the feeling this right-wing journalism professor has no problem appointing himself the guardian of what is politically correct? He isn't even bright enough to be original with his rhetoric - he just hauls out the same tired, repeated cliches and phrases used by every other right-wing clown.

19. There was a bit more than just using the word 11 times that contributed to the backlash.
If she had left it alone at the point she had uttered that foul word, it could possibly have been explained away as a regrettable and unfortunate attempt to make a point (however wrongheaded). But then she followed it up with that nasty little "Don't NAACP me!" remark.

And the inherent inconsistency of her values shined through as well.

I've listened to her enough to know she regularly says words to the affect of "Your spouse and your children come before anyone and someone who won't stand up for their spouse is worthless even if they have to stand up against their father or mother to defend their spouse."

Then she berates the caller for being too thin-skinned because her husband won't stand by her when his friends are using extremely offensive language in her presence.

All of her other comments were pretty darn racist, throughout the call. Not to mention RUDE!

22. Yup, that's EXACTLY how it started in the Weimar. Singling out and applying offensive names...
...to one group of citizens, portraying them as less human, less worthy, etc.

Oh, wait...

Never mind.

Carry on ripping this silly git a new one, everyone.

sheepishly,

27. Those armed and dangerous Media Matters guys
going and oppressing free speech and putting folks in jail and ending their radio shows and, by god, not accepting Dr. Laura's bullshit apology!

Actually, how it started in Germany was with people who started blaming the Jews for the economic situation, and people not unlike Dr. Laura who believed it and failed to use their voices to refudiate it. What she's doing is perpetuating and supporting racist ideology... the new version, where the blacks are the racists against whites in the convoluted conservative mind. And she should be called out for it. And once again, they're confusing criticism for oppression. They can dish it out but they can't take it.

Bottom line, Dr. Laura, if you keep it up, you're only going to be able to keep a certain kind of friend. And one of them is someone you used to loathe named Sarah Palin. Good luck with that.

It's always "someone else's fault!" or "you misunderstood!" or "stop being so sensitive!" :eyes:

I've yet to see these RW types ever take personal responsibility for their actions and misdeeds.
