Koran Bonfire: Fanning the Flames
Are the media turning this crazy Koran-burning scheme into the next Manhattan mosque?

The story of this kooky pastor seems to me to be substantially overplayed, with potentially dangerous consequences.

Hillary Clinton says that if Gainesville pastor Terry Jones immolates Islam's holy book on Saturday, it should "not be covered as an act of patriotism." Intriguing idea. Don't hold your breath.

And like the Islamic center in New York, the Florida controversy was brewing for awhile before getting big-time coverage.

President Obama has now lent his voice, telling George Stephanopoulos in an interview that aired this morning that Jones's scheme would be "a recruitment bonanza for al-Qaeda."

But how did we get to this point? The first national report I found was carried by Religious News Service on July 21. On Aug. 26, the New York Times reported that Jones planned to hold a bonfire of Korans because, he said, it is "full of lies." The story ran on Page 14. Not much happened.

1. The M$M sure is pouring gasoline on this fire
This bigot has managed to get on every television in America with his hate speech. He should have not been given any mention on the news and his little act of hate would have been mostly un-noticed through out the world.

As it is, the media has made this about America to the Muslim nations. They do not understand our 1st amendment. Neither does our media, they could have left this bigot alone and let him have his free speech (although burning books is not speech) and just not given him a stage to do it.

3. Emergency powers, shut down the media on this.
Obama needs to strut his inherited stuff. This is a national security priority issue, after all.

General Petraeus said that burning the Koran would endanger US soldiers. Why let the media build it up and show it widely and tick off millions and millions of people around the world?

I am not for censorship but isn't the media already censored against anti-war protests and points of view while we are under an emergency order while waging undeclared wars?
