Worlds Worst Textbooks: Texas did us proud!
http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2010/09/07/the_worlds_worst_textbooks?page=full

The Texas Board of Education ignited an international firestorm last spring when members approved a controversial new social studies curriculum. The new standards skew hard to the right -- championing American capitalism throughout and suggesting religious intentions on the part of the founding fathers.

Some of the most notable arguments were over language surrounding U.S. imperialism now known as "expansionism" and birth control pioneer Margaret Sanger as a promoter of "eugenics" and an amendment to teachers that students be instructed to "describe the causes and key organizations and individuals of the conservative resurgence of the 1980s and 1990s, including Phyllis Schlafly, the Contract with America, the Heritage Foundation, the Moral Majority and the National Rifle Association."

1. Your grammar could use a bit of work
I believe it should be "Texas done us proud."

Try and get it right for next time.

7. "Try to get it right next time," not "try and get it right for next time."

If you're going to critique the grammar of the OP, yours should be correct.

The point of the OP remains. The books chosen by Texas are an embarrassment.

11. The point of the OP is not in question, and it appears that you have trouble with that humor stuff.
Additionally "try and get it right" is correct, though it's not saying the same thing as "try to get it right."

"Try and get it right" means "make the attempt, and succeed."

Way to stay on point, Tex.

Try to stay (not "and stay") on topic.

I'll remind you again that the topic is the bad text choices made by the right wing controlled Education Agency in Texas. It's disrespectful to the OP to attack his grammar.

16. One can try and fail, or one can try and succeed.
Generally one doesn't try to fail.

And I'm confident that the OP hasn't been unduly traumatized by my scandalous show of disrespect.

3. The quality of our educational system has now sunk
into the sub-basement among civilized nations.

What this country badly needs is the kind of standardized curriculum we had back in the 1950s and 60s. You know, like back when we led the world in education, science and literacy.

We don't need testing and firing of teachers. We need a standardized curriculum, NOT of the sort promoted by Texas. Back when I was in grades 1-12, every student in this country learned the fundamentals of the 3 Rs, grammatical rules of the English language, the accomplishments of the founding fathers, the principles upon which this country was founded, etc, regardless of whether they had a good teacher in any given subject, or a poor one. Reason for this: standardized curriculum.

8. boy there is a group for Mt. Rushmore:
Phyllis Schlafly, the Contract with America, the Heritage Foundation, the Moral Majority and the National Rifle Association.
It could be done tastefully. Say Schlafly taking the Moral majority (armed with a contract on America) in the rear while standing on the Heritage Foundation.
