h/t to Greg Sargent for that line. He also said 'Too bad for Rudy Giuliani that the Koran-burning is cancelled, because for some reason it had led NBC's Meet the Press to book him for another on-air ride on his 9/11 magic carpet.'
http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2010_09/025596.phpOLD MEDIA HABITS DIE HARD.... NBC's "Meet the Press" announced its featured guest for this weekend. It's a reminder of why the Sunday shows often make me sad.
This Sunday: Exclusive! Former Mayor of New York City Rudy Giuliani (R)
{A} growing controversy over the plans of a small town pastor to burn copies of the Quran on the anniversary of September 11th heightens tensions in Muslim communities throughout the United States. We'll have an exclusive conversation with the Mayor of New York City at the time of the attacks, Republican Rudy Giuliani.
It's been nine years since the 9/11 attacks, and it's tempting to think that the media would stop associating the attacks with the man who was mayor of New York at the time. Especially as we learned more about Giuliani's incompetence and mismanagement related to counter-terrorism, it makes sense to assume news outlets would find more credible figures to speak to every September.
But, alas, here we are again.
Giuliani knows surprisingly little about the subject he claims the most credibility on, and has nothing credible to add to a discussion about "heightened tensions in Muslim communities throughout the United States," especially since his rhetoric tends to make those tensions worse.
He's been out of office for nearly a decade; he ran a strikingly unsuccessful presidential campaign; and his consulting businesses is failing.
So why have Giuliani on?—Steve Benen
