Democrats and Taxcuts ??

There is something incongruous and absurd about the entire discussion.

Democrats cutting taxes? I thought Repubs cut taxes and Democrats raised taxes?

Since forever, Democrats have raised taxes on the wealthy as a matter of social justice and to pay for programs for those folks that are needy. Taxes have been the equalizing element that Democrats have used to level the playing field with the very wealthy. Because wealth always accumulates at the top. Always.

The world has turned upside down. Night is day and day is night.

Next thing you know, you will be telling me that Democrats support bailing out the Big Banks and will do everything they can to save the folks on Wall Street.

Sometimes it feels like the twilight zone...

We can no longer think along party lines, we need to start thinking along ideological lines.

Regardless of party, conservatives are in charge.

3. It's not that unusual for Democrats to cut taxes as you might think

Clinton signed a taxcut in 1997.

Carter signed a capital gains taxcut in 1978.

Lyndon Johnson cut taxes when he was President.

John K. Kennedy cut taxes as well.

2. Democrats aren't trying to cut taxes.

They intent (maybe not sucessfully) to keep taxes THE SAME for people making <$200K and raise taxes modestly (by roughly 3%) for people making >$250K.

This provides relief for the working class and makes the income tax system more progressive. Seem pretty standard fare for Democrats.

They are agreeing with the taxcuts on 98% of Americans and actually want to make them permanent. We have to have a more progressive tax than that or we are on our way to Third World status.

I thought the bailout was to help them resolve their mortgage problems? They just gave the money back so there would be no oversight of them. Nothing has changed.

11. Here is why?

It means we will not have enough revenue to run our government and the deficits will continue to grow out of control or spending cuts will have to be made to all programs, social and otherwise. Our country will deteriorate rapidly.

We will not have enough money for our infrastructure. We will not have enough money for Social Security or other social programs. We will not have enough money to educate our children. We will not have the basic necessities for a civilized country.

It is a basic truth that there is no free lunch. Taxes are what we pay for a civilized society. We put our money together because no one person or group can afford what the people as a whole might need.

It means that the very wealthiest people will accrue more and more of the wealth of the country and the lower working class will expand exponentially as more and more of the middle class disappear. We are seeing it already. If we do not turn it around, it will get much, much worse.

It is not just about "fairness", it is about what kind of country do we want? That is what the taxcuts mean to all of America. We must have a progressive income tax or we will all lose. That is the bottom line.

Everyone should know that for a society to survive and in fact prosper, everyone needs to support it..That support comes in the form of finacial support every bit as much as physical support..Taxes are essential for a country to survive. IMO those that don't want to pay their fair share of taxes do not support their country..Everybody wants a free ride but it takes adults to make the hard decisions about taxes and regulations..Republicans don't know how to step up to the plate regarding those challenges.
