Who is behind the Quran-burning idiot?
Edited on Fri Sep-10-10 05:50 AM by deminks
Who tied his wagon to the 'mosque issue' to keep that fake issue alive? Who is paying for the idiot's trip to New York? Who is advising this idiot on how to hold the MEdia hostage? Who is paying for someone to advise this idiot? How is it that this fringe freak can try to scare me just in time for the election?

Somebody wants us to be scared again. Somebody wants a surge in fear. Somebody wants a new conflict. Somebody wants a wedge issue, and pretty desperately.

I want to know who.

the blogger on the atheist page links this: the pew forum, july 21 (4 days after the church announced their plan).

http://pewforum.org/Religion-News/Fla-church-plans-to-burn-Qurans-on-9-11-anniversary.aspx

the post is made up to look like a news article, & there's a link at the bottom -- but no url.

but there is such an article, came out the same day here:

http://www.religionnews.com/index.php?/rnspremiumtext/a_florida_church_is_under_fire_for_a_planned_international_burn_a_koran_day/

For nearly 75 years, Religion News Service has been an authoritative source of news about religion, ethics, spirituality and moral issues. Based in Washington, D.C., RNS has a network of correspondents around the world, providing news and information on all faiths and religious movements to the nation's leading newspapers, news magazines, broadcast organizations and religious publications.

In 1994, RNS was purchased by Newhouse News Service (NNS), and its name was changed to Religion News Service. NNS is a company of Advance Publications, a major publisher of daily newspapers, as well the Conde Nast family of magazines, and Parade. Universal Press Syndicate now distributes the service to daily and weekly newspapers in the US.

http://www.religionnews.com/index.php?/history

Advance Publications, Inc., is an American media company owned by the descendants of S.I. Newhouse, Sr.: Donald Newhouse and S.I. Newhouse, Jr. It is named after the Staten Island Advance, the first newspaper owned by the Newhouse family. It is currently ranked as the 46th largest private company in the United States according to Forbes.<1>

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance_Publications

so the early "news" on this subject, which came out within days of the church's decision to burn korans, came from this major corporate source, based in DC & funneled through the pew foundation's blog & elsewhere.

very interesting.

it would be interesting to see when the first comments on their facebook page were made, but facebook makes that too difficult now that there are thousands of comments. you have to backtrack through them all vs. going directly to the start.

8. Mostly the Jihadists, I'd say
Jones' campaign wasn't so much fueled by US media as it was by jihadi media and propaganda outfits, who apparently have been hard at work for weeks getting Jones' message out to Muslims around the world. Arguably, US media didn't really start to ramp up the story until the last week, when Patraeus and the admin weighed in, for better or worse.

Prior to that, they seemed content to treat him like a nutcase, and watch him out of the corner of their eye. I think the media were cool on covering him, in part, as they are claiming, because they felt it irresponsible to give him too much attention. I suspect their main reason was fear of retaliation by jihadists, since media managers all remember the threats, intimidation and violence that happened to newspapers who published the Danish cartoons.

I think an important thing, though, is that Americans not over-estimate the importance of what American mainstream media do here. The Koran-burning story was already being promoted separately through jihadist propaganda outlets, who managed to get demonstrations organized globally even before this week's coverage ramp up. They don't depend on CNN for their information.

As for the future, my view is that the Koran-burning crisis is just beginning. Korans will be burned in America, this saturday or after, by Jones or someone, and the visuals and the message will get out to the Muslim world regardless of whether the American media head for cover on it and decide not to cover it. And there will be more threats from the jihadists, more demonstrations, and eventually riots, attacks on Americans, embassies burned, etc.

True to form, many of us will want to place the blame for what is about to happen on convenient targets we think we know,, like the media, or the idiots who are burning Korans, and even on the existence of very free speech rights that allow those idiots to burn Korans.

However, I believe the real actors behind all this are the jihadists themselves, who know a winning set of conditions for them when they see them.

Probably just a coincidence but interesting nonetheless, Freako Pastorius was born in the same city as Rush Lipbalm. Still a mystery how that guy got so much media attention. Oh, and Terry Jones, too.

11. The Darkside...Religious Radio...
I was tempted to post an OP on this topic, but good chance it would sink like a rock so I'll just post it this way.

While many focus on the destructive nature of faux noise and hate radio, the Islamophobia is firmly rooted in the thousands of "non-profit" religious stations around the country. Its a private pipeline of misinformation, fear and loathing that airs 24/7 unfilitered and not noticed by most since those stations aren't rated but they sure do have a lot of influence over their audience.

Ironically one of the companies with their hands in this is Salem Media...owned by Edward Anslinger and Stuart Epperson...longtime GOOP backers and operatives. In addition to their hate radio operations that feature such "lovelies" as Bettamillion Bill Bennett and Laura Ingraham, they also make a lot of money selling airtime to "dollar-a-hollar" preachers who have been spreading the "Obama is a Moozlim" and the "Ground Zero Mosque" stories almost non-stop for weeks. That's where the fuel comes from...unnoticed by most but a useful tool for the GOOP. Another abuse of our public airwaves...

12. Likewise.
I am tempted to post an OP on this, after communicating with someone who provided me with information on this topic. But it, too, would likely sink like a boulder.

The situation has as many layers as an onion.

13. I Wrote About This 6 Years Ago...
Sheesh...doesn't seem like 2004 is that far in the rear view. I spent the good part of a day putting thoughts and sources together and got all of 1 response. A major reason I rarely post any OPs on here...and never put out my opinions or get into the vanity game.

That said, you are right...this is a very multi-layered onion that goes un-noticed but is very much out there and if one pays attention you can see their influence. This was the conduit people like Dobson and others have used to spread their bile with no room for any opposing view...and aired on many stations that are considered "non-profit" and thus able to hide below the commercial media radar, yet is a big cash cow (through sales of air time and "donations) that is used to fund Salem's "commercial" hate network.

Not long ago I was dialing around and caught a Salem "religious" station where the host was ranting about the "Muslim" influence in our government...claiming such things as since President Obama has read the Koran he must somehow subscribe to it, Valerie Jarret spent her "formative" years in Iran and how this administration has planted "Muslims" inside critical parts of the State Department. Again, no facts, but for those tuned in, it's truly "gospel".

Guess if I bitched about being "un-rec'd" that would get noticed.

Cheers...

:hi:

14. You are on target.
The "minister" had planned thisas an event in the manner of the burning of Beatle albums back when John's infamous comments on Christianity were aired in the USA. The group that contacted him with "support" (including big media coverage) had believed that the Obama Administration -- including the President himself -- would lead an emotional charge against the book burning. Their hope was that the administration would attempt to over-reach, by means of legal force, to stop the event. That would have been Sean Hannity's wettest of dreams. The minister, being a particularly shallow thinker, was convinced that his brave act would promote him as a national Christian hero.

17. And Unforunately They Got The Reaction...
A friend, then Ed Schultz pointed out how this issue picked up steam once Petreus weighed in...that amped up the controversy and, unfortunately is now standard practice, got the White House to react. But then they were stuck in a box...the story kept getting more play and their silence was noted...however when they reacted, we're seeing how the right wing has pounced and tried to make this administration look weak. It's a no-win game and those who want this "issue" to remain on the burner will get more mileage.

Jones is a useful tool...the latest...and I'm sure in his hate-laden world he's a hero...but he also showed an ugly side to the right wing, similar to the Schaivo circus, that may, in the long-run work against his puppetmasters. However, I expect the corporate media to continue to chase this bright shiny toy...they just love touching third rails.

The problem is the right wing has many ways to get a message out...while this administration is hamstrung in constantly having to react to the lies and distractions...each time losing the battle and encouraging even more of this behavior.

21. That is what Pat Buchanan was screaming about this morning.
He wanted the President to arrest the preacher, and have the WH lawyers sort it out later. He kept saying that President Obama needed to be forceful about this, that he needed to "act", and ask questions later. He kept brining up how Woodrow Wilson and Lincoln had people thrown in jail that didn't agree with them, and that is what Obama needed to do, according to Pat.

I kept thinking how this whole circus is like baiting a trap for President Obama. He is damned for saying anything about it yesterday, and damned today for not going all out against it today. If the government did step in to do anything about it, Pat would be the first to scream about protecting the preacher's first amendment rights.

IMHO.

Of course, if you use "SATAN" as a euphemism for "GOP" it's about right. Pretty interchangeable terms, IMO.

Tomorrow will be scarier than normal. I just told a friend: "If the decision were ever made to attack Iran, there would a synthetic terror attack first. And THAT would be preceded by just the kind of provocation we're seeing now."
