2. If it does, we can blame it all on Terry Jones
And certainly not on anything our faultless, star-spangled boys and girls in uniform have done.

3. "Our faultless, star-spangled boys and girls in uniform "
are out there risking their friggin' lives for a country full of people who sit in mom's basement with dorito crumbs on their belly and make snarky, sarcastic comments about them on internet forums.

What the hell have you ever done?

7. It's mostly about luck and being noticed.
Plus, truth be told, we officers were more quickly awarded decorations for far lesser deeds than an enlisted person would recieve them.

I was just trying to make a point to asshole up above. He assumes too much.

15. Ah, so I see you value free speech....

:sarcasm: since you obviously need it.

I can tell you from first-hand experience that NOT everyone in uniform is a hero. Far from it. Do the names Lyndie England, Tim McVeigh and lee Harvey Oswald ring a bell? And as far as making comments, that's WHY I wore a uniform in the first place. Don't like my free speech? Fucking move to North Korea.

I feel for your son and you. I think he made a poor decision to wear a uniform for a country that doesn't give a crap about him (even though most of us make rah-rah comments to the contrary) and is basically doing to him what we do to people we imprison. He may be a decent person now, but it's unlikely he will be when he returns after serving alongside so many former gang members (the military has severely lowered its recruitment standards, in case you didn't know).

And as far as "thank you for your service" you can shove it up YOUR ass. I didn't do it for the thanks of malcontent fuckwads like you.

14. Does it matter?
Because first off, I didn't ask anyone to go out and risk their friggin' life for me, or cut off fingers for souvenirs, or bomb wedding parties. A crime was committed against my country back in September 2001, and a bunch of yahoos decided all on their own to waste a lot of money and lives ostensibly to bring the criminals to justice. Sadly, they duped a lot of people in doing their dirty work for them, and some more people did so quite eagerly.

As for what I've done, if the names Rachel Corrie, Art Gish, Rick Polhemus and Rusty Curling don't mean anything to you, I highly doubt that any of what I've done would mean anything to you, either. I don't worship at the High Church of Redemptive Violence.

5. actually protests are common in Afghanistan
and they are often violent, and they are mostly ignored.

They are about things such as civilian casualties. I remember one a couple of years ago where villagers brought truckloads of body parts to government offices in Kabul, to prove that an attack occurred which the government was downplaying.
