It was in my paper this morning, and made me do a double take for the beauty of the thoughts and the turns of some of the phrases.
Since it was meant for publication, I think it's perfectly fine to let you read it as well.

Letter to the Editor

Beautiful and pristine

Like a white rose, the truth is beautiful and pristine and yet easily sullied by the very ground that gave it life. Witness this recent assembly of the outraged that gathered at the capital to protest ... what? Surely it was not to protest the wars. How about the billions spent in black-budget operations that go without review by our congressional representatives?

Do they protest the liars that filled the airwaves with talk of yellow-cake uranium and mushroom clouds? No. Instead they flock to events hosted by media clowns who earn huge salaries from their corporate ringmasters. This crowd voices concerns that seem incongruous to their silence during the near decade of George W. Bush. They crawl over beams of injustice to find a speck of discontent.

We cannot find the truth by watching the shadows on the cave wall. The feigned outrage of millionaires is nothing compared to the real struggle of millions. While these puppet masters sit scheming in their corporate fiefdoms, real people deal with real pain.

Make no mistake that greed drives these villains. They use the church, but they don't worship. They orchestrate the government, but they don't vote. They credit rugged individualism for their good fortune, but are blind to the sweat and toil of thousands. When they are through, the truth lies half buried and obscured with only the hope that it will rise again.

10. Democratic Poetry:
"In our day these economic truths have become accepted as self-evident. We have accepted, so to speak, a second Bill of Rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all—regardless of station, race, or creed.

Among these are:

*The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation;

*The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;

*The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;

*The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;

*The right of every family to a decent home;

*The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;

*The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;

*The right to a good education.

All of these rights spell security. And after this war is won we must be prepared to move forward, in the implementation of these rights, to new goals of human happiness and well-being.

For unless there is security here at home there cannot be lasting peace in the world."---FDR
