Obama: Voter anger could hurt Dems in electionsp

Obama said he understands why some Democratic congressional candidates are not saying much about his landmark health care overhaul, even many who supported it. The new law has proven unpopular.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_obama

-------------------------------

Had Obama actually passed MEDICARE FOR ALL --

or protected Social Security rather than attacking it --

or filled his team with liberals/progressives rather than right wing corporatists --

Dems wouldn't have anything to fear!!

Even at this late date, Obama continues to fill elite coffers with 100% tax breaks for

plants and equipment over two years -- $200 or $300 billion -- not sure.

While providing only $50 billion for new jobs --

It burns like hell. And this is a very stupid OP.

I've yet to hear one Dem, IRL, not on a message board (big clue there) who is against Obama to this degree, or who thinks that the GOP is going to take over in November. Nearly all have said this is a big bullshit meme made up by the GOP... very much like the bullshit they made up during the 2008 presidential campaign. They kept saying how they had it all sewn up... McCain was way ahead in the polls... blah blah blah fuckity blah... all bullshit.

I for one will not sway from the course... I'll fight up to and beyond the November election... and most everyone I talk to says the same thing.

RE: "I've yet to hear one Dem"

There are 50 posts per day right here on DU from Dems who are unhappy with Obama's performance. Where have you been?

Just because a Dem is critical of Obama, doesn't mean they still won't vote Dem and help the cause. But stop hiding your head in the sand.

Please read my post... not again, but clearly for the first time.

I don't count trollish behavior on DU... and that was clearly stated in my post.

And your response to this is that you don't count "trolls" --

How many "trolls" do you ignore every day -- who are more likely Democrats?

Meanwhile -- look beyond DU -- look even to Democratic notables -- you will see frequent criticism.

And, given that these notables are not looking to get Democratic leadership too angry with them,

the criticism is usually kindly stated.

28. Btw, a little DLC/Rahm reminder "crowing about preserving 'private health care industry'"....!
This was posted a few weeks ago by another DU poster --

Ramh .... crowing about preserving "private health care industry" ... business s/b grateful!

”In a Thursday interview, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel argued that rather than recoiling against Obama, business leaders should be grateful for his support on at least a half-dozen counts: his advocacy of greater international trade and education reform open markets despite union skepticism; his rejection of calls from some quarters to nationalize banks during the financial meltdown; the rescue of the automobile industry; the fact that the overhaul of health care preserved the private delivery system; the fact that billions in the stimulus package benefited business with lucrative new contracts, and that financial regulation reform will take away the uncertainty that existed with a broken, pre-crash regulatory apparatus.

13. Obama is a Democrat and this is what HE said . . .

Obama: Voter anger could hurt Dems in elections

And, I'm sure Obama counts as at least one -- "in real life" -- Democrat!!

If you also recall, it was Gibbs and Emmanuel who were swacking at Democrats and their

chances -- and Pelosi complained to the White House about that TWICE!!

I happen to also thing the reports are right wing BS -- but here we are with Obama pushing

that theory!!

Reason I posted this is to make clear that MEDICARE FOR ALL would have gone a long way

toward bring new Democrats and old Democrats out for a new landslide!!

And also to point to the fact that once again, Obama is repeating this "we could lose" message!!

4. The absolute defense of anything Obama is getting old
My list of things Obama COULD HAVE ACHIEVED EASILY is quite long. His list of accomplishments is short and full of compromises.

No one is asking for Superman. We are asking for a leader, who gets it done.

Now go ahead and reply with all YOUR excuses why he is not getting it done. And in the end, the reasons why don't matter.
Either you can get it done or you can't. We have as big a majority in both the House and the Senate as we are EVER going to get... so go ahead... list your excuses.

I'll start with the Patriot Act. Tell my why we still have it!

more federal dollars to endless wars...

next up is Guantanamo Bay...

and next is DADT...

no real wall st. reform... health care totally watered down to favor the insurance industry...

and next is... should I go on?

I can't forgive Democrats who won't listen to other Democrats, but WILL compromise with Republicans.

9. Weak Argument
So we could have scored more touchdowns, if only the other team just didn't play defense so hard?

You mean you didn't EXPECT the Republicans to be total pricks? They always are!

The biggest problem is Obama has very weak advisers. They think they can "deal" with Republicans. Two years into the White House, and now they realize this strategy doesn't work.

I would rather see Obama go on TV once a week and grandstand about how the Republicans don't have a single idea to create jobs. Obama is being too nice. He doesn't want to be the "angry black man".

Call out the Republicans for what they are, the enemy of the middle class!

Don't Tread On Me, Democrats who won't REALLY listen to the base but compromise with Republicans will get screwed by Republicans and will lose their base. In that case nobody will be pleased.

Maybe Obama will at last catch on.

10. 100% correct
They will compromise with Republicans, but ignore the "Professional Left".

And members here on DU pretend it is not happening.

When I voted for Obama, I thought he was the best candidate for President in my lifetime. I am 48. He turned out to be a weak candidate.
I was hoping for someone who could get it done.

Congressional Recess coming up! How about seeing Obama recess appoint EVERY DAMN open position and tell the Republicans to go screw.
WHY NOT!!!! Because we have a weak President.

27. Random thought...
You're 48, and so am I (for a few more days, anyway). Obama is barely 49.

Do you think age has something to do with Obama's performance (or lack thereof)?

I've often wondered this; i.e., as a member of the Baby Busters -- a "lost generation" that's never had an identity of its own, but rather is lumped in with Baby Boomers (which we are most definitely not), and much too old to identify with Gen X -- do you think being jammed between two very identifiable (and influential) generations might contribute to Obama's practically desperate attempt to please everyone all the time (thereby pleasing no one)?

Long, convoluted sentence, I know, and a potential threadjack (not my intent).

Just curious as to what one of my generational contemporaries thinks -- as well as any other Busters (I'd say that's roughly 1958 to 1964, no matter what Wikipedia thinks).

Edited on Fri Sep-10-10 08:09 PM by Hawkowl
I'm beginning to believe that they will never "catch on". Why? Because they don't have to. If they fuck it all up and get blown out in a few elections they can all go and become millionaire lobbyists like Daschle for one, or go on the millionaire speech circuit like Bill Clinton.

They don't care because they don't have to. See, it is a win-win scenario--for them.

30. I agree
Any politician at the Senate or House level, and anything above... has made it into the "2%" of the wealthiest. They are set for the rest of their lives. They no longer have to worry about income. So their political career is based on keeping it as long as possible, and compromise as needed. Never risk your career for the people. That would be a foolish gamble. It is easier to just ride along with everyone else.

The only solution is term limits. Then politicans can't make a career out of being a... politician.

11. Gosh! That is such an insightful, intelligent summation
of our current uphill battle in this year's elections.

This President Obama guy really has his finger on the political pulse of the nation, doesn't he?

Wait. What? If he already knows that, then :wtf: is he going to do to turn it around?

This is so frustrating. If only he would conk some Republican heads (today's press conference was a good warm-up) about these tax cuts for the middle class...

17. Hartman was praising Obama's possible "chess game" in NOT criticizing Repugs harshly
the last two years -- and saving it up for now -- pre-election -- when he will get

more media attention and be taken more seriously!!

Unfortunately no one asked either Hartmann or Sen. Bernie Sanders two questions I was

interested in --

What did Obama lose in playing ball with the Repugs over these two years -- and

what did he gain?

And whether Sen. Bernie Sanders would consider running as a Dem presidential candidate

in 2012!!

19. I doesn't help to have CNN and FUX claiming 24/7 that Obama and the Democrats suck.
I've noticed CNN is tacking hard right lately, with constant criticism of Obama, even if it is inane bull shit and unimportant like, "OMG! Did you notice President Obama is not wearing his wedding ring?!?!" :wow:

There is no praise of the Democrats and very little criticism of the GOP.

I'd love it if we'd all just put the TVs in the closet -- but ....

Stick with Jon Stewart -- Rachel Maddow -- Olberman -- Schultz -- who's also on radio --

Hartmann on radio -- Randi Rhodes -- internet radio.

Don't know what the current figures really are -- but Schultz is outdoing CNN --

Randi always did better than Limbaugh -- and...

After Ted Turner lost CNN, they had a huge drop in viewers --

something like from 13 million internationally to 3 million!!

Haven't heard figures on this stuff in a long time -- so take what I'm saying as rumor.

And, alledgedly, O'Reilly's viewers are all 70 year olds???

21. "The stubbornly high jobless rate"
might not be so "stubborn" if policies were directed towards job creation instead of free trade and the health of the top of the pyramid.

As far as "policies that are going to move us forward versus the policies that will get us back into a mess," hopefully there are some maverick Democratic candidates that recognize this administration's bad policies and will work to send BETTER policies to the WH. I don't think Obama recognizes where "forward" is, and if he didn't like the mess, he shouldn't have appointed people that helped us get into it to begin with.

I certainly agree with your assessment. At this point, Democrats who want to win in November might want to distance themselves from the Obama administration.

Any perceived stubbornness is coming from policy-makers and those who pull their strings.

It's not a jukebox waiting for the right random kick. It's a machine that needs knowledgeable technicians who aren't paid to keep it failing.

and that which has taken effect = children > 26 may be covered by parent's ins; 'existing conditions,' and those with them, must be covered.

Plants with equipment provide jobs.

You may know that it would take more than Obama to 'pass' 'Medicare for all,' like Congress. Or maybe you don't.
