40 houses blown up, dead as yet uncounted and
the news is, "steel gas lines may have to be checked"

Good thing we still have a few union pipefitters to take care of a project that could last through the century.

Anyone think anything will be done about it except to see insurance rates rise?

2. Insurance co.'s are already excluding/limiting sewer-backup coverage.
They already know the infrastructure's crumbling. Muni's are indemnified or whatever so you can't collect from them if a fountain of neighborhood poop spurts from your plumbing. Some bigname Home insurers already limit sewer & septic coverage to 5K. Try replacing the contaminated contents and structure (flooring, drywall, etc.) and decontaminating/drying the rest of the building for 5K.

With PG&E, the ins. co's can subrogate the claims (pay out to the homeowner then sue & collect from PG&E).
