Wife of Rep. Conyers begins federal prison sentence

The wife of Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) reported to a federal prison in West Virginia on Friday to begin a 37-month sentence on corruption charges.

Monica Conyers, a former Detroit city councilwoman, reported to the Alderson Federal Prison Camp this afternoon 20 minutes before deadline, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Conyers pleaded guilty last year for taking bribes to influence a vote on a sludge disposal contract in Detroit. She has since attempted to withdraw her plea.

Her husband, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, has dodged questions about his wife and her guilty plea.

doesn't start a fight. Not likely with her temper.

5. She would do about 31.5 months with good behavior

The Federal B.O.P. gives 15% "good time" off sentences that are longer than 12 months.

However, given her volatile temper, Monica will not respond positively to the "speak only when spoken to, then shut up" attitude that is expected from a model "good time" candidate.

Her best hope is to be out after 31 months, but I'm sure she'll do the whole 37 months.

3. Is John estranged from her?

I can understand his not wanting to discuss it, but are they "married" in name only? Anyone know?

4. Much speculation about that for many years. Noone can

understand why he's with her, even if in name only.
